The lunar Gear thing seems to me like a solution looking for a problem. I just don't care for the 'retainer ring' concept. I have to remove the wheel from the bike, and fiddling with the retainer ring is only marginally faster than a chainwhip and lockring, but is speed necessary for a much less secure setup?
It's also damned expensive. The special carrier is $35. And each cog is $35. Each part is literally more expensive than a plain-old tried-and-true $30 Surly cog. It's limited to no smaller than an 18t.
Also, you still require the spacer kit, so you don't gain anything there.
The gear clamp is more sturdy and reliable, uses any cog you want, but IMO looks clunky and "workaround".
On the upside, you can perfect the chain line, I guess.
That's just my free-on-the-internet opinion. Both obviously work, but seem unnecessarily complicated in my eyes.

agree the lunar gear doesnt solve anything
also the gear clamp sucks, it doesnt apply pressure consistently around the diameter so the cog wiggles, i replaced mine that came on a used bike with regular spacers and wide based cog, would not go back
The Lunar system is new to me and (glad you posted thanks) and seems rather contrived. Good to see the option anyway. Seriously though, it doesn't seem to be better in any way than what it is supposed to replace.
The clamps are not good. This is based on my experience. I posted about these somewhere here once. By themselves, as pictured, they do not hold the cog in place while mountain biking. They wiggle, they walk, they come loose. Maybe they'd be acceptable riding flat smooth sidewalks at low torque, but that's about it. They are also noisy.
I kept them, as spacers. They need to be firmly clamped in there as usual. Therefore there is no benefit over using regular spacers.
