I've just started riding a geared gravel bike and it brings home how much I love single speeding.
Also that putting out threshold power climbing whilst seated is a totally different kettle of fish to doing it standing.
My times have dropped, my HR is 10bpm lower and I'm putting out 30w less.
Seated climbing with gears should be banned. More effective than EPO.
I keep toying with putting gears back on my Les. Then I ask why when I'm having so much fun as a SS. Just picked up some Enve wheels and dropped 1.25 lbs so it should be even more fun. Of course it is raining all week now...
I sold mine back in 2003. It sat collecting dust for almost 6 months. I was in denial and couldn't part with it. I rode it (geared FS) four days a week and had purchased it new. It cost double the SS and wasn't half the fun. I've never looked back.
