I have had the Talus and the brain, both were ok for the SS however, are there any other forks that lock out through valving? I would like something off the shelf if possible. I do not want to mount a lever to lock out. Thanks
I think he is specifically asking for a valved lockout like the brain, and I am not aware of any other forks that do that.
However I would like to ask the OP if there is a specific reason for the brain style lockout? Only because they are not great. By which I mean they will never preform like a crown or remote mounted lockout fork. A valved lockout reacts to something that has already happened, b/c it needs the inertia of the event to open the system by which time the "bump" has already started to slow you down or at least alter the path of your travel, even if it is milliseconds. Honestly a remote lockout is the best way to go, lock it out when you really don't need suspension and then you can count on it being locked out until you unlock it, in which time you have the full benefits of the suspension. Add to that if your suspension is set up correctly you hardly ever need a locked out fork for maximum efficiency, especially with the modern forks of today.
With that being said I have owned Judy's, Sid's, Fox 32, 32 step cast, RS1, and now a 34 step cast. All the 100mm forks were good, but after a very long day (over 50 miles) my hands start to fatigue which I attribute to having to run the forks a little stiff off the top to prevent bottoming them out. Maybe I could have played more with spacers, but I didnt. To me the RS1 is a great fork, but now that I have the 34 SC I like it better. It is lighter, and can use any hub. I suggest checking out the 34SC with a remote.
