    the clincher

I was waiting on a (much delayed) Blur XC until the morning I saw the pics of your bike, about 2 hours later I'd cancelled the Blur and placed an order for the RacerX above.

    No regrets.

... and if we just ... much vagueness

...how did i like the ride. i was amazed at how natural it felt despite coming straight off a hardtail.

Ran the the RP3 at 90% of my weight (in lbs) and didn't notice any bob, in fact only realised how well it was working when i turned the propedal to +ve and locked out the fork...wow. Sprinting was great it just felt fast and smooth, again didn't notice it bobbing.

Was blown away with its ability to soak up some of the bigger moves, found myself jumping into the descents and technical sections rather than picking my way down the smoothest line. really opened up my riding this weekend.

need to work on the fork settings as it seems a bit soft so far. but otherwise am v.happy.

    Hh/rx100

My bike started off as a 23.5 2002 Hammerhead 100x. After 2 years of use, the frame cracked at the seat tube/top tube junction. Titus took care of me and sent me a custom front triangle (one of the first to have that brace on the top tube). The new front triangle came stickered as a RacerX100, so I guess that's what I call it now. I love this bike..

Mavic 317s with Hope XC hubs (4 years and still straight!)
Tioga DH 2.3 tires (heavy but worth it)
    XT RapidFires
    Avid Speed Dial levers
    Avid Mechanical discs
    XT Front Der
    XTR RapidRise rear der
SRAM PC59 chain (used to be a 99, but I break those things)
    Fox RP3 in back (run at 110 psi - I'm 170lbs)
Marz Comp XC 120mm front fork (run with 35psi)
    Chris King Headset
    Easton Monkeylite handlebars
    Thomson 110mm stem
Titus seatpost (I got it gratis from Titus because the new triangle had a different sized seat tube than the old one!)
    WTB something or other seat

I've never weighed it, those Tioga tires surely add a lot of weight, but they are oh so cushy at 25 psi, and traction on rocks like you can't believe. Its probably in the high 20's.

Where did you get the Ti bolt kit? They'd been out of stock since the'06 frame released in January. I've been checking back and nothing is projected for 3 more weeks.

Also, I gotta see that thing on a scale. My bike is 25.5 lbs and the main place we differ in weight is wheels and tires but I'd be surprised if it was 2 lbs.

My wife has never said word one about my bike spending and I just built a Titus Eleven (Ti) Single Speed and got the Racer X in January but I'll save that ring reply for just the right moment

I ordered the frame with the Ti Kit, It may have helped that the order was placed in August. The wheels, tubes and tires are feather weight. Just for good measure I threw in Ti rotor bolts. I think the wheels weigh 689 front and 788 rear.
But it is nice and light,

    Shock....................Fox Float RL
    Wheels..................XT/36 DT Straight/Mavic X517

Its an old, rather boring build, but for me its friggin perfect
My dad has a much older racer-x
Frame....................Unknown year (pre-98) Racer-X (Alcoa -- this thing si much beefre and stiffer than recent racer-X's)
    Fork.......................Marzocchi Z3
    Shock....................Fix Alps
    Wheels..................Hugi/DT/X517
    Crank.....................XTR (1st gen splined)
    Chain Rings............XTR

    Chain.....................XT
    Cassette .............. XT 11-32
Pedals...................Clips and straps (Defective SPDs caused a torn ACL, don't blame him)
Its a hodge podge of parts, but very solid. Its also a testment to Titus that it still works, flawlessly, after so many years (I'd bet its 10 years old). Also, before we bought it, it was rental in Moab. This bike has seen abuse that would kill lesser bikes.
And the fact that my titus handles me without complaint is pretty cool too.

Here's some info, anybody let me know if some of this is off.

    Shock Lenght: S through XL 100 use a 7.875 eye-to-eye and a 2" stroke.
    The S trhough XXS 80's use the shorter 6.5" eye-to-eye and a 1.5" stroke.
(I think this is valid for '04 and on, as there were not any 100's before 2004)

Seatpost size: Pre 2006 RX's used a 31.6 seat post and 2006 use a 30.9 (although due to a slight varaiation in manufacturing on some of the 2006's a few have left Titus as 31.6).

Front Derailleur clamp size on all Racer X's is 34.9 and that is regardless of the model year. Top pull/top swing front derailleur is required.

Seatpost clamp: Same as FD's, 34.9.

How's the 2x9 going? I have a large '03 RX80. My LX bottom bracket conked out, so I picked up a RF Next LP square taper crank on ebay. I'm wondering how your 2x9 set-up is working, so I can figure out what length Phil Wood bb to get, i.e. 107 or 113. I'm also considering chainline and whether to run rings in small/middle or middle/large configuration.

Basically, I was probably looking at the FRM 29t ring to pair with a 44t large ring with the 107 mm axle. I live in Marin and climb a lot, but usually don't use less than 20 gear inches. I think the 29/34 combo is 22 gear inches, which should be OK. What do you think?

    all good here

I've been on the 2x9 for a long time, the move to Turbines and Phil Wood (not to mention the RX is much more recent).

I'm running a 108mm phil wood (the pack is marked as 68x108), I'm not even sure Phil Wood do a different 73mm BB shell version - certainly I've not had a problem with my 68 - the only thing to watch is that the Turbines seem to take a few rides to bed in without coming loose.

Am currently considering moving to a 42 rather than 44 outer to lessen the jump between the two rings and ease the transition a little, 29-44 is a BIG jump when pedaling.

oh...and i got it weighed accurately...with the move to the EC90 riser it was 24lbs even. not bad.
i've got one inch, who needs more?

(wanted small or medium 93 or earlier race lite, must have bonded TT cable guides)

I'm partial to the old school XTR, especially the trigger shifters. Rear derailleur and triggers are from 1999. Other than replacing derailleur pulleys, transmission is still shifting like new.

no changes for 07 to Racer X Ti
my guess is that he just has the '07 RP23 rear shock

Front fork is a 2007 as well. I was also told the rear triangle for the Racer X would see some cosmetic changes by Matt a Titus (Which I din't see on that bike). Does the Ti RX use the same rear triangle as the AL version?

TItus told me that it was an 07 due to the rp23. No matter either way.

    my new ride

hi all, here's my setup pictures...

but the strangest thing is that the recommended 30.9mm seatpost was too loose for the frame (small 100)... i had to use a 31.6mm instead, which turned out to be a perfect fit...hmmm...

    any ideas people?

2005 Racer X used a 31.6 Seatpost. Is there anyway to tell if that is actually a 2006 Front triangle?

just got an email reply from Jim Glose from Titus...

"There were a small number of 2006 RacerX frames that were produced with the 31.6mm seat post dimension midway through the calendar year in both anodized black and anodized blue. It sounds like you own one of these frames. I hope this helps clear things up for you. Please contact us with any further questions. Thank you."

Did they run out of 30.9mm tubing???? Or did they just want to use up the stuff they had lying around. Never did understand why the change to 30.9 for 2006, but oh well rides just as well now as it did in 05.

    i believe

I believe there's been mention elsewhere on the this forum that the change was a reaction to a few RX seat tubes developing cracks and the thicker tubing being away of reducing the potential for problems?

    Cool-blue Rhythm My Commuter/race bike

06 racerx (set for xc racing and daily commuting)is still a work in progress. But for now, here is set up

    O6 racer x frame
O5 xtr cranks (machined for under 170 Q factor)
FSA ceramic hybrid bottom bracket bearings and cups
    Boone 26/36/46 Ti rings
Expedo Ti/Ti pedals (Have some candy ti being machines and thinking of 4ti or frog in near future)
    Fox Rp23
Manitou MM3 (Just got back my Talas from Chad @ Redbarn) and will being putting that on)
960xtr dual controls with Magura Marta calipers, galfer pads, goodridge ss lines, and Hope floating disc(160 f and r)
Industry 9 all mountain with ceramic hybrid bearings excep for 1 on the cassette mech, 4.1 rims (looking at replacing with 4.2 when they com out
    Stans Crows
XTR 960 cassette 11-32 (working on a custom Ti cassette).
Bolt on skewers from odds and ends
CK headset (waiting for Chad to get in the Ti version)
Syntace F99 stem, Screw on gripsZ, Vector low rise carbon bar, and waiting on P6 seatpost, super lock seatpost binder, and duraflite carbon bar.
    WTB saddle
Mud machine fenders (making Carbon Fiber mounts now to replace the metal ones)
Dinotte 3wx2 front lith/ion, 3wx1 rear lith/ion lightest (I leave them on when I race as they stay better than the components due)
Delta horn (to be I compliance with Indiana statues for riding on road). I due take this off when I race as it just waits to be smacked on terrain.
I will be upgrading to xtr 970 dual controls (as soon as they are available) and am pondering adding the 07 crank, and F and R derailluers and possibly talas x front shock. Also, some serious bolt tuning, brighter lights,

Thanks Chad for the help (and future help) in getting this together

what fork and how much travel?

Looks like a Float 130. Did you reduce the travel? Ive got the same fork on my Marin that Im going to swap over when I build up my RX this winter. Looks sweet with the CrossMax XLs too! They might be swaped over as well if i dont build up a Stans wheelset.

No problem and Enjoy, geez you've built a fast bike there.........oh by the way, a syntace f99 stem will save you another 30grams, and so will a XTR cassette to

Oh man, don't get me started on shaving more grams off this pup...I've spent enough for a while and am amazed my wonderful wife let me go with this!

I considered the XTR cassette and also the XTR front derailleur to shave some gramage but once I got it down to 24 lbs it was more of a choice on performance and durability vs. the weight factor.

Never heard of that stem...how is the stiffness?

It's an awesome stem. I have 3 of them. They are stiff and my 105 weighs 96g with Ti bolts. They can be found for $70ish on ebay.

Light and Stiff and Syntace is a great company.

Freakishly light and strong.......has surpassed FSAxc115 as my favorite XC stem ....if you look hard enough you can find them under 70 bucks.

I checked out the Syntace. Sounds like you guys are running 25mm...I run a 100mm oversized...my MaXm is 125 grams so there wouldn't be any weight savings for me on the Syntace OS.

Sweet bike zonoskar! I really like the white. Built very similar to mine and very close in weight. I think the Nobby Nics are 2.1 instead of 2.0. I love those tires! The Hope M4's looks sweet too.

Yeah, my front triangle was a replacement for a broken 2006 aluminum frame. The ti is a 2007 model, new headbadge and all. Oh well...it's unique, right?

WHOA..I just noticed. Your rear swingarm is the same that's on my 2007 ML2. It's not like any of the 2007 RX's I've seen before.

    What's going on here?!?

Well sort of maybe. We have a bud that works at Titus. He used to work at my LBS. I ordered a white aluminum racerx, but he called like a month after I ordered it to let us know it would be a while before he would have a white one ready. I didn't want to wait 2 more months.... That frame is stock except it has a 31.6 seat tube which was a "mistake". I could care less about that and told him send it when he offered it up! The black rearend I'm not sure about. I thought all the 07 ti frames had it?

    Lots of variations....

I pulled my 06 rear triangle off a frame I bought out of Hong Kong...it had the lowers powder coated black. I haven't seen that combo before. So what's it with Germs rear triangle that makes it a ML and not RX rear. I don't see the diff....

Ahhhh, now I get it, thats an all black rear from the Anniversary Racer-X added to the rear rather then the standard silver......Thought it was a ML rear for a minute, but that makes sense now.......Anyways she's a beauty.......Go I wish I could trade up for an exogrid Racer-X now.............

    My new Racer-X

I just built her up last week and took her out for the first ride this morning. By far the best ride I've ever been on! Weighs in at 28 lbs 1/2 oz. I'm hoping to upgrade to lighter tires/tubes, saddle and wheelset within the next year to get her down to 26 lbs. I think everything else is about as light and good as I want.

Nice looking ride Sorc!!! I too am riding the Reba Team and the Poplock rocks. You've got yourself one fine sled there no doubt. Try to find some Stan's ZTR Olympics on the DT Swiss hubs, they are a lightweight solid wheelset and should get ya down into the Sub-27 relm. Also the red in the logos will really throw some bling on there. Enjoy...and welcome to the RacerX whirld...

Engaging works too....I rode the Seven Sola for the first lap of Dawn til Dusk and it was light but not really efficient for the terrain (a little ledgy and "whoopy" in places for a HT). I got on the RacerX for the next two laps and it was like a magic carpet. Set two laps at a personal best and within 40 seconds of each other. Those rides will always stick with me.....suffice it to say the RX is my favorite bike, even though the Foes FXR is the most fun.. ..two different tools for different sheds.

What a sweet looking sled that is! In the top picture, the rear brake line looks like it is waiting to snag a branch. Maybe just be the angle.

    Love it...

No they need to be trimmed.

    It rides great!!

A LOT stiffer in the rear than the '05 that I had.

    racer-x 2002

    haven't seen a 2002 on this forum....
    here's mine:

frame................ Racer-X 2002, size L, anodized grey alu (with 2003 rocker link upgrade)
fork....................Manitou Mars Comp (yep, with steel coil and 1490 gram!)
    shox..................Fox float R
wheels...............DT Hugi / DT Swiss with revolution spokes and mavic X618 rims
    quick releases....Salsa
tires...................Schwalbe Nobby Nic and Racing Ralph 2.1
crankset.............Race Face Turbine isis (no problems with my isis....)
    bottom bracket....Race Face isis signature
    pedals................959 (XTR)
    front der.............XTR
    rear der..............sram X9
    shifters..............sram X9 8 speed (yesss, 8 speed rules!)
    cassette............XTR titanium 8 speed 12-32 (the 950 series)
    chain.................sram PC68
    brakes...............XTR v-brakes
    levers................XT
    seatpost............thomson
    stem.................thomson
headset.............syncros hardcore 2001 (when syncros was syncros)
handle bar.........kore elite (when kore was kore)
    seat..................flite gel
    bottle holder......ringle H20 ( cool retro!)
    weight..............dunno.......

What I like about my L size frame: it does NOT come with the support beam from the top tube to the seat tube > my old style is much cleaner!
To bad they changed that, and compared to the support beam of Ventana bikes the beam from the newer racer-x bikes is huge...
I also think the weight of my L size is lighter compered to the newer ones since it lacks the support beam.
As far as I can tell the support beam is not needed: my bike is as stiff as I want it to be

    Ride on!

    new sled

Just finished the build, about five rides in. Just can't believe the difference from my CAAD4 hardtail. I am 5'8", 150 lbs, 31" inseam.

    Frame................ Racer-X 2007, size M, gray aluminum
    Fork................…Fox F100 RLC
    Shock.................Fox Float RP-23
    Wheelset............Mavic Crossmax SL
    Tires...............…Maxxis CrossMark 2.1 UST
    Crankset/bb…….Shimano XT 2007
    Pedals................XTR 2007
    Front der............XTR 2007
    Rear der.............XTR c 2003
    Shifters..............XTR c 2003 shift/lever combo, from my old bike
    Cassette.............XTR 11/34 c 2003
    Chain..............…XTR/Dura Ace
    Brakes................Avid BB7 Mechanical
    Cables…………...Flak Jacket
    Seatpost.............Thomson Masterpiece 30.9/350
    Stem................…Maxm SL 90 mm/31.8
    Headset...............Cane Creek
Handle bar.......….Race Face Next SL Carbon Lo-rise 31.8
    Grips…………...…ESI Chunky
    Seat................…..Maxm
    Weight.................About 25.5 lbs

Had some spare (new) parts lying around, plus I re-used my shifter/levers. This way I was able to save some $'s and put it into wheelset and cockpit. Levers required mech brakes, but with the riding I do (I've always been ok with rim brakes - usually dry, no long hills), the BB7's are great - took no getting used to. Wasn't sure about the mavic's, but my shop has had good luck with their service dept. Time will tell...

Bought it from a new dealer in central CT, I think the first one in New England. They did a great job with my parts pick and build.

Does anyone know where to find specs on old Titus RX frames? I would like to know stuff like seat post dia, front derailleur dia, and shock size incase I want to put a new shock in an old frame. I love the bike, but I don't have the $$$ to get a new one. eBay here I come! One I am looking at now is Ti and in perfect shape, but there is no Horst link.

    There is no "X-link".

That nice frame is "Horst" link as are all RX frames. You get the magic pivots at the chain-stay/drop-out junction.

Here's my new weapon, have waited 6 weeks for this frame to make it's way from Tempe Arizona to deapest darkest Africa. It arrived at my office on Thursday 13:00 and by 15:00 it was all built up.. It could be lighter but I got a sweet deal on a build kit from our local SRAM agent. Rode it today at Groenkloof reserve, awesome trail with 6 miles of new single track, hats of to the council for makin such an awesome place to ride, wildlife everywhere, check out pics of Giraffes. Been riding a K2 razorback team for the last two years and wasn't convinced the rx would be that much better.... I am now! This bike is sublime!! The only down side today was a woman reversing into my brand new bike on the bike rackwhile I was getting a burger....has some scrathes not caused by me F%&$£$ B$&%£!!

This is my opinion on the racer x
After two years I returned to a full, ..... bici fantastica!!!!
I did my usual training route, a loop that exploit to organize a race of the regional championship xc.

In ascent with the pro pedal position 3 Vai as a splinter, raises good bike saddle with frequent outside, without any impression that the suspension absorb part of downloaded on the pedals.

    Climb technique .... salt everywhere!

In plan is reactive and the speed is maintained very well

    Descente!
    Here I was surprised, really, I do not expect a similar behavior;
i excluding pro pedal and I began the descent of the loop, which begins with a full of dirt off wips ... at some point I wondered but it is possible that this bike has only 100 of travel? I managed to go all over it, holding the line set and the rear always attacked on the ground, in the following single track I appreciated the manageability in the Strait and precision .......

    Great Bike......tanks!!!!

Do not ever stop to thank you all for giving me advice on my racer X
I hope you will understand my English

I cannot wait to get mine out for a test-run. Got a lot of good advice from all of you guys to build my winter project and I just cannot get myself to drag it down the salt-ridden streets of Chicago to get it to the trail-head - just keep burning up the studs on the old C-dale for now!

    New-to-me Racer X 100

Picked up a used '06 Racer X frame a couple of weeks ago off the classifieds. Received it last week, had it built by Friday, and spent 5.5 hours on it this weekend.

Hands down, the best climbing bike I've ever owned, which would include a carbon hardtail (from which the parts on this frame were cannibalized.) Second only to my Ventana X-5 for downhill speed and handling. Superb bike for my intended use.

    The build:

    Frame: 2006 Racer X 100, Large
Fork: Rock Shox Reba SL (custom built by Hippietech Suspension in Boise)
    Crankset: Truvativ Stylo team, GXP
    Rear Der: SRAM X-9
    Front Der: Shimano XT
    Shifters: SRAM X-7
    Stoppers: Avid Juicy 7
Front wheel: Mavic 717 disc, Hope XC hub
Rear wheel: Mavic 717 disc, Chris King hub
    Skewers: Salsa chromoly
    Headset: Chris King
    Stem: FSA (110 x 6 degr.)
    Bar: Profile Designs carbon
    Post: Sette APX alloy
    Saddle: Sette Nyx
    Chain: SRAM 991
    Cassette: SRAM 990 (11x34)
    Front tire: WTB Mutanoraptor 2.4
Rear Tire: Specialized Roll-X Dual 2.0
    Pedals: Time ATAC
    Clamp: Hope

With Specialized Turbo tubes, the total weight is 26.1 lbs. Not bad for a large size 4 inch travel bike without overly zooty parts.

Those tires are Specy Captains. Not my favorites, they do roll fast and are good for the rear. For dry I usually run karma rear and a s-works fast trak front. For wet I like the storm rear and a negaval or ignitor front. I did just try the new Rocket Ron from Schwalbe and I was impressed with it on the front. The conti mt king works well on the front in most conditions too.

The heavy thompson stem was the only 90mm 0degree stem I had, which seemed to fit me the best at first. I like thompson stems, they dont break. The x2 thompson or KCNC I do prefer, but didnt have those in a 90, 0degree. I will not buy a new one until I make sure that is what I want.

I broke my collar bone in a race on the maiden voyage on that bike, havent ridden it since. But I do like it, I was a few seconds of the leader in my class(sport) when I crashed.

Here is my first Titus after about 4 years on an Giant NRS (which was a tad too big). I wanted to get a smaller frame and something that could serve me in my quest for a 24-hour solo race in the next few years. I thought about just moving parts over, but opted to mostly start over from scratch. The specs below are preliminary with some modifications to come (I wanted to get out and ride) So far, I have absolutely loved it. It's the right size and a huge improvement over the NRS. After about 3 hours, my body isn't tired (just hungry and dehydrated). I spent more than I wanted, but got some great end of season deals. I'll update with new photos once I get more done with it.

Sorry to hear about your collar bone. When the time is right check out the Ritchey 4 Axis Pro stem. It's light without being stupid light unlike the Syntace stems. Also consider running Kenda Small Block 8 Tires, they roll really fast and provide adequate traction in every thing except loose gravel. It's what Team Chipotle-Titus has been rolling for the last two years.

The black frame with the black fork, seatpost, and stem look killer. Be sure to check out Formula and Shimano brakes when you start shopping for hydros. Both brands are usually reliable and trouble-free.

    x post from 29er forum

Well, I built up my first 29er. It is my first new bike (other than a surly 1x1 used for special circumstances) in 5 years, so it is a double treat. I rode a 26er 2003 titus racer-x for the past 5 years and I loved it so much, I upgraded to a 2008 titus racer-x 29er. Here is the 27 pound build for a large frame:

x-0 trigger shifters and rear derailleur
thomson x4 stem and elite seatpost
    truvativ noir bar 31.8
    avid elixir brakes F=185 R=160
cr29ssmax ust wheels with pythons and fast'air
    fox f29 100mm fork
    xt crankset
    xtr front derailleur
    ritchey pedals
    prologo vertigo saddle
    king headset
odi ruffian mx lock on grips
    sram 991 hp chain

    Cables length??

    hi guys,
Coming from HT and getting ready to build my first FS which happens to be an aluminum racer x size large.
I'll use sram XO grip shifters paired to a XO RD ( large cage) and Avid BB7 mechanical disk brakes ( 180F & 160R) actuated by a pair of Avid SD7 levers...for my riding I like the performance of the BB7's with 180/160 set up
will use the SRAM stock teflon coated jagwires ( 1.1mm) for the shifters and would like to use the teflon coated brake wires as well .
    now the questions:
what is the length required for the housing I will run in this frame?
jagwire kits comes "ready to use" but the housing comes in pre cutted pieces, is this length OK or do I need to get a roll (25ft) of housing??

    advice is apreciated.

I'm 6' 1" tall and about 180lbs, a mechanical engineer, and XC sport class racer. My last bike was a Salsa Caballero. I finally got that bike just the way I wanted it (removed V-brake posts and mounts, installed double drive side main pivot bearings, Enduro Max bearings all around, fresh powder coat) so of course it had to break. Frame cracked at the seat tube/ top tube junction. Anyone know anyone who needs a Caballero rear end? I've got one in need of a good home, theirs for shipping costs.

After the first ride on my Titus the Salsa felt like a wet noodle. I gained a pound and a quarter going to the RX-1 (5.25lbs for the Salsa, 6.5lbs for the RX-1 but the suspension feels much more active and isolated from my inputs. Just have to get used to and learn to use the lower bottom bracket. Very pleased. I'll post more pictures this weekend after I get a little dust on it.

I'm happy to be part of the club.

    2009 titus racer x build

This is my new build up.
All I can say at this point is she climbs like a goat, goes from 0 to fun in a blink. I just love the feeling of this bike. A human input is felt straight away. It holds a fine quick line in the single track and the steep head angle keeps the rider on the gas. My first descent felt tight and in control. If I had to sum up the Titus in one word, FAST!!!!!!! I would say if you want a flatout fast xc duely Titus is my dirt candy of choice. If you want one call pete in queensland He is very helpful and easy to deal with Here is his web https://www.incline.com.au

Hey thanks, ya I dig the rotors would never go back. They are pricey here in Australia but well worth it. The ralphs are still braking in, but seem to be holding in.

Ya I was going the blue but went black cuss blue is harder to match colors and the re sale seems to be better. If your like me I build a new bike every year so the old one has to be re sold. Im about to build up a new racer x carbon.

    Project completed.

    Hi guys,

long story short: few months ago I started to look for a very small frame for my 10yo boy and ended getting a Racer X as his first 26" ride..

I used almost all the componets I had for my HT project, I just purchased the Fox 80mm fork and the XOs gripshifters, - boy is used to gripshift- and All he triggers shifters I know requires a hard & long travel thumb actuation..which is not suitable for small hands..
and also required crankset customization, I had an old pair of Bontragers that were modified from 175 to 150 mm.

below are the "from to" pictures..

I just noticed your bike weight as I was browsing through the Racer-Xs . I'd check that weight on another scale. I'll guarantee that with the frame size and build you have, you are closer to 27+lbs. Nice color, though!

Racer X chain stay and seatr stay

Hi Guys, I have a Racer X with V brakes which I use for training and an X which I race with. I am trying to find an old Aluminiun chain and seat stay for the Racer X that took the V brakes, anyone have any ideas on this please let me know.

    Thanks

    Racer X from the Phils

Greetings from Manila! This is my 09 Racer X project in steel blue anno. It runs on SRAM X0, Easton XC One's, F-100 RL, etc. It weighs about 25.5lbs. I plan to drop the heavier Nevegals for Continental Race Kings or Rocket Ron's after the wet season. Target weight is about 24lbs after a few more tweaks (I'm quite heavy myself). Although this isn't a "race" build, I couldn't ask for more. This old model rocks... hope Titus sorts out their issues.

They're fine... fast rolling, good weight... except for one small issue - the user adjustable hub cones. They tend to loosen up after every ride. This should be sorted out once I install the revised cones from Easton.

    ... and if we just ... 06 Racer X

    Hi all

Back into mtbing after many years off. Picked up this as a frame and built it up form a dead trek. added a few new bits and it's ready to race. Doing off road tris and short endurance events

    06 Small Racer X
    RP3 shock
Rockshox Reba 100mm with pop lock
    XT/Deore running gear.
    Tolken cranks (new)
Fulcrum red metal 5 wheels set (new)
Deore hydro brakes with metal pads (new)
Bontrager Bars, stem and seat post.
    Larsen TT tyres

Put it together for under $1000!!

Raced it for the first time on the week end and loved it.

    enjoy

Yes, but the bike was designed around a 100mm or 80mm fork.

Couldn't really answer from experience but I have "heard" that it makes the bike a little too twitchy.

My take would be that the longer fork would decrease/slacken the steering angle there fore make it less twitchy and slower to turn in to turns.

maybe I'm wrong, it's been known to happen before

Pros: Plusher front end. More confidence when bombing downhill trails.

Cons: As mentioned, it may feel twitchy and kill the RX's characteristics altogether. You may end up lofting your front wheel during climbs. I don't know if it would really affect the frame's strength since other manufacturers void their warranties when you alter the geometry by doing so.

A cheap bombproof solution would be to reduce the fork's travel by adding spacers. It's cheap and reversible. OR, run more sag, and pay the price with a mushy ride.

well it didn't last very long. While check setup I lifted the seat post to stop my knees hurting. Went for a ride for an hour or so and felt the seat moving more and more. Stopped to check it out and found the seat tube had cracked around the top tube join. It almost all the way round. Check how much post was left in ( thought there was heaps). it was about 3mm above the min insertion point.

this is a real pity as I've like the 3 rides I've done on it. will have to see if I can get it repaired!!

Sorry to hear Steely. They are nice frames but I guess the seat tube issue and the fatigue on a 5 year old frame= trashed.

Steely, I'm sorry to hear about your seat post. I just read the specs on the syntace p6 and their minimum insertion is 90mm or 3.5 inches.

Guys, what's the minimum insertion on the titus racer-x aluminum frame. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

I bought a used table titus (year 2005 I think) and am thinking about changing the shox that came on it, a 5th element. by a fox. to measure eye to eye, shox that is on the board is 200mm, but I found a fox shox rp3 on ebay that has 203.2 mm eye to eye. Can I make this change or is it too risky?

I also wanted an indication of where the bearings (links) should I buy for this picture:

    http://www.pedal.com.br/forum/quadro....html?KW=titus

Sorry for the mistakes in the text, my English is very bad and had to use google translator.

    Thanks!

Do you have rear tire clearance issues with your 2.25 Nobby Nics?

No prob. I would think twice about 2.4 in the rear though.

The nobby nics are plenty grippy in all but wet roots. Despite the grip they still roll fast.

You're welcome. Mud cakes up near the main pivot but it doesn't become a clearance problem.

Here are a couple photos, I hope they help. Two of them may. The other is just a visual reference of a bike you may also own.

btw, I bought an xtr front derailleur off ebay but it didn't fit (it was a high mount top pull). I should've referred to the posts here. I guess many use a double pull xtr front derailleur.

Hi Soulfulheights. After considering the mud issue and the local trail conditions, I decided to go with Rocket Rons running tubeless . I may consider a Nobby Nic up front when the rains come - I'm from the Philippines. Here's what my RX looks like now. (Sorry, no mud this time!).

    Thanks again and ride safe!

I just bought a 2007 Racer X frame and the person I bought it from, on Ebay, said it takes a 30.6mm seatpost. Has anyone ever heard of this?
