Trek Reaktiv 210x52.5 on Fuel Ex8 or even thru shaft shock on EX9.9... unobtainium?

Is my only chance at getting a spare reaktiv shock or even the high end thru shaft shock that comes on the ex9.9 going to be peruse the classifieds and hope that someone pulled one off a bike? I'm pretty bummed that I can't at least buy a spare from Fox or Trek. I understand protecting the purchase of a new bike, but there are reaktiv shocks over a year old now, do they ever become aftermarket parts?

I can't find much. How long does Trek keep this stuff hard to get?

    I did find this:

Trek has an exclusivity agreement with both RockShox and FOX Racing Shox for two years. There are no patents on Thru Shaft, so after two years, other brands and FOX or RockShox could implement parts of the design. However, Penske still owns the patent for the RE:aktiv valve, so only Trek will benefit from RE:aktivís regressive damping.
What I really want is to upgrade to the thru shaft shock.
