    New forks

    Hi all.

Last year i had the bike I had just made stolen within the first year (typical ), So this year i am going to have to make a new one.

I generally ride XC with a few drops not to high, but it has also got to do the urban thing too, so lock out is preferable.

However i am 6'4" to 6'5" and out of shape, so I am not exactly what you would call light, can anyone here recommend me some forks for a hard tail? preferably at the cheaper end of the market. and what should i look for in fork suitable for me?

    thank you.

Tora 318 Solo Air models are solid, stiff, capable of handling 300lbs+ riders, and can be found on sale for about $250 or less

yes, the Solo Air is more than capable of handling big riders (the Clydesdale Moderator is using one and he's 300 lbs). That said, the coil model of the 318 is good too, you just need to get the x-firm spring for it. Make sure and get the 318, not the 302 which has a much more primitive and unreliable damper.

Marzocchi 33 TST2...coil spring, a little heavier, more primitive damper but reliable
Marzocchi DJ2...coil with air preload, very heavy, primitive damper designed for dirt jumping
Manitou...nothing new, all high end these days
    Fox...same
RST, Suntour, etc limited parts and service availability
