Fox 36 dust wiper seals, when to replace?

    Hey All,

Have a Fox 36 for about year now.. best guess is approximately 900 miles on it. I've done 2 oil bath services but haven't replaced the dust wipers. When is it necessary to replace them? I know Fox recommends I should of done it by now, but if they are in good shape is there any reason to do so?

I have a new set, but don't have the seal driver. I've read it can be a bit difficult to get them in.

    Thanks.

I'm not sure, I know oring seals wear down and become flat instead of round, but wipers may last much better. I think all the low friction wiper seal talk is marketing bs. Really friction comes from bushings and air seals. But if you're in there soon might as well replace it. It's quite easy to make a driver from a piece of PVC or a plastic fitting.

When you do a fresh oil change and an excessive bath oil creeps past, it's time.

In general, you can go significantly longer between seal changes than recommended, and should go significantly shorter on bath oil changes. Fresh bath oil is cheap and ensures long seal life.
