Finally received my Redshift ShockStop Suspension Seatpost

I pre-ordered/Kickstarted this in April 2018 (at the SeaOtter). It took awhile, as they refined the design and addressed some issues, but it finally got here last night. I'm planning to use this on my Advocate Seldom Seen steel drop-bar hard-tail mountain/trekking bike. (Build thread here.)

It comes in one size fits roadbikes, so I also ordered a shim.

Interested for a road bike commute over appaling roads. Does it pedal well?

I haven't had a chance to put it on the bike yet. I'll let you know. The pre-load is fully adjustable, so you can make it as stiff as you need to.

Cool. Check back in once you've ridden it.

I've got a few years on a Bodyfloat with no complaints, but am always open to improvements.

One step closer: Installation and pre-load set up for 20% sag.

(The Redshift stem is primarily for use in conjunction with the rigid fork that came with the frame. I got the Manitou Machete for $156 on Chain Rxn btw.)

Well, it isn't love at first ride. It moves a lot, even riding on a smooth surface. Looking at their videos, I think this is by design, but I find the sensation a bit disconcerting. I will now crank up the pre-load some more (as if I were 40 lbs heavier) and take it from there. (I suspect I just need to get used to it. I have a tendency to hate anything new.)

Edit: Cranking up the pre-load helps a lot.

The stem is great. I highly recommended it. The only downside is the weight, but it weighs a lot less than any suspension fork, including the Lauf. (I also happen to think it works a lot better than the Lauf.)

I think I will probably wind up liking the seatpost too.

I gave the seatpost a good long test ride today, with lots of ruts and washboard and stuff. It really works quite well. I also did a hard climb with it, and the penalty was fairly minimal (I had a couple of PR segments in the climb, so it couldn't have been too much of a handicap.)

So despite my previous skepticism, I think I can endorse this. I've never used a quality suspension seatpost before, so I can't compare it to others.

It definitely won't magically convert a hardtail into a full suspension bike, but it will make riding rough stuff rather more pleasant.
