Which coil for a 2019 levo

    Hi,

    2019 levo carbon expert.
Comes with the basic deluxe air.
Fork will be pike (not sure damper) will vorsprung smashpot.

Rider covers all types of terrain, mostly alps. Steep rocky rooty.

Never jumps or does crazy stuff.

    Wants comfortable traction.

    Controlled and smooth.

Coil seems to be solution to me.

The ohlins comes pretuned for specialized.
However its quite racy and very expensive.

Now the kenevo is out, two more options.

    Marzocchi coil and superdeluxe coil.

We are looking for a comfort all day coil, not something optimised for a racetrack.

    What can people recommend?

    Thanks
Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?

Best bet, depending on budget, would be to get something like the RS SD Coil or Marzocchi Bomber Coil and have it tuned by a shop specifically for person and bike. Something like the PUSH 11-6 would be the premium for it.

Ohlins TTX coil seems to be the best bet from my net searching.
FAST have one, don't know much about them.
    EXT Storia is another option.

Bomber coil, ok but some have snapped in this application.
Cane Creek...research before buying. Even Cane Creek recommend that at least one of their coils is not to be fitted to the Levo as it will snap.

For best performance it's the Vorsprung Tractive tune on a Super Deluxe Coil.

Best bang for the buck will be the Marzocchi.

I recommend a different bike: Kennevo or similar

The Kennevo is set up for a coil, get the comp with a Z1 fork and add a Smashpot, then get the CR Coil tuned.

The Levo has a more progressive curve, you might need a progressive coil to work, might not be all that with a coil, better off with a good air shock.

Thanks to insomnia I did quite a bit of reading up.

There seems to be a ton of love for this marzocchi coil/reshim.

I didn't consider it previously as specialized bikes tend to sideload shocks. Now this is on the new kenevo I'm presuming it is OK? (or does the kenevo not side load?).

Tftuned offer 'push' tuning, Dougal recommends fractive.

    What's the difference?

TFtuned mentioned the Bomber breakage to me and recommended the Ohlins over it FYI.

EDIT: Bomber shaft snapped due to the eyelet unwinding so this breakage I don't think is a very common occurrence.

The super deluxe is a great shock and gets even better with tractive tuning. Its a durable shock and the countermeasure spring means it will be one of the most comfortable shocks out of the box too. The ohlins is great in this way as well

Tractive is great because it is a known quantity and well proven so you can't go wrong with that. Better compliance and bump control than stock and tuned for your weight

The Bomber CR is an excellent little shock and VERY good when tuned, although that will strongly depend on who you get to do it. Strange that some are breaking, the 1/2" shaft should be plenty strong so would be interesting to know what the cause is
