Converting older SLX drivetrain to 1x10 setup?

    Hello all,

This is my backup bike so there is no real rush but since my main ride is a 1x setup and I am looking to modify my older ride some I figured why not.

The old bike has a Shimano SLX 11-36t 10 speed rear cassette with a 3x setup up front 42/32/24. Looking to drop the front derailleur and if possible go with an oval or narrow wide up front. How feasible is this and if I am sticking with 10 speeds on the rear cassette is there any need to change out derailleur? I am assuming I will need to modify the chain but aside from that and getting the correct chain ring I am not sure if there's anything things in my head seem more feasible than what it is in real life.

    Any feedback would be nice.

I've got an SLX 3x crank & went with a Blackspire snaggletooth ring. As long as your rear derailluer has a clutch you're good. Adjust chain as needed and you're good to go. Might want to measure the old chain & if it's stretched replace it as well.

I converted from a 3x SLX crank by putting on a Race Face Micro 24t Narrow Wide chainring (64 BCD). Comes with a bashguard to bolt to the 104 BCD holes.

You could stop right there if you want, but I went all the way and put on an SLX 11-speed (11-42) cassette and an SLX 11 speed shifter. I am climbing like a billy goat now and haven't even gotten into the 42 cog.
