    Cage size.

I'm changing my mount vision cxm-9 over from xt 2x10 to xt 1x11. Going with 170 mm cranks 30 tooth front ring and an 11-46 rear casstte. Having issues choosing the cage size for the rear mech. Medium or long and why?

A medium is fine for XT 1X11 w/ 46T. The link below is the to Shimano Product info where can see the specs, and a medium can change up to 39 teeth, so 46-11 (all on cassette, if it were 2X your would have to factor in the range too) = 35T, so you be good and theoretically be able to go to 50 for all 39T. SLX is slightly longer and can do 41T.

You can see may posts in the drivetrain forum as well for more detail if you prefer.
