    I have no doubt that the new stuff will be bombproof just like the M8000\M9000. My XT M8000 drivetrain has been nothing but reliable with maybe one adjustment per year. But as on owner of a bike that doesn't even have boost hubs, another hub standard where I can't even re-use my cassette is total BS. As "green" as bikers and/or bike companies claim to be (or want to be), we sure create a lot of waste by implementing this kind of obsolescence into our bikes and components.

    Looks real nice. The crankset is 100 grams over xx1 the rest is lighter or on par!

    No more carbon spider on the cassette and more alloy than magnesium in the brakes but Iím sure they are still better.

    The whole hub standard gets me but they say DT already have the designs but itís going to be a big issue/delay as Iím down for a new group set but a new hub too?

    Over 600% range with that 2x12!

    BKXC on yewtoob is going into the Himalayan mountains this fall I think. Enduro bike plus supplies and such and insane altitude it might be needed.

    Trek sells a bike with eagle and a 30 tooth in the front so people climb crazy stuff Itís just in Europe or Himalayan mtns

    Until Shimano licenses out their new freehub body design this won't be too popular on anything but high-end OE specs and completely new wheel builds. Unless you happen to have compatible DT Swiss hubs, you're SOL if you want to run a 12-speed XTR cassette on your existing wheels. And if you have to buy a SRAM cassette to use the new XTR with your existing wheels, why not just go full SRAM? Kinda dumb on Shimano's part IMHO.

    Oh well; whatever. By the time XT comes out next year I bet Shimano will have licensed out the new freehub body so any hub manufacturer can spec it.

    Jolanda Neff is running it with DT Swiss 240 right now Iím not sure what Shimano has done for her to run it but it could be simple

    Spacing will most likely be slightly different. Maybe enough to matter maybe not. I would use the Sram chain with a Sram cassette and shimano chain with shimano cassette.

    Many of the articles have stated (look at the one on nsmb.com for example) that existing DT hubs will will work - just need the freehub.

    DT developed the system with Shimano so they're the first to get access. Nice for those of us who use 240s, or other DT hubs.

    Not too simple, answer is yes. There is simply not enough real estate for them to mess with the spacing like they used to on 7/8/9 speed systems.

    DT Swiss was given the heads up wrt to the new microspline design over a year ago.
    I'm told the DT 240s hub isn't upgradable to microspline and that anew hub is required. I can't confirm this at this stage. The 350 hub range should be compatible though. No on knows for sure yet if DT swiss is going to make a separate freehub o upgrade current DT hubs

    That sucks since I have a 240 on my bike!

    The extra money for the hubs on this xtr build makes the damn groupset 2600 dollars. It's not going to hit the ground running at this point.

    All I need is the 10-45 11 speed cassette for my Di2 XT and a new hub unless maybe if I can convert my 240. Time will tell if that will be possible. New stuff is almost always good for us and the industry. Bikes continue to get better in all areas. Humans mostly do not like change and these changes will cost you if you want to ďupgradeĒ. This new stuff keeps our sport fresh however. ETap will be available for Eagle soon and then Shimano will offer DI2 XTR 12 sp, then XT and so on. Expensive for sure but Shimano is great in moving the latest tech down stream.

    Shimano has to license out the Microspline freehub body design eventually. Freezing out every hub and wheel manufacturer other than DT Swiss is a sure-fire way to kill 12-speed XTR (and 12-speed XT, and whatever else follows) dead in the water. I'm sure Shimano knows this. It wouldn't surprise me to see Microspline stay exclusive to Shimano and DT Swiss hubs for a while, but you can bet by the time 12-speed XT comes out all the other hub manufacturers out there will be on board with Microspline-compatible freehub bodies.

    Your statement is nothing but pure speculation and/or wishful thinking. Show me one article from a reliable source that says "most hub and wheel manufacturers will have Microspline freehub body when the XTR groupset is coming out." You won't find such an article because Shimano hasn't said that. The fact they haven't said that speaks volumes.

    SRAM licensed their XD driver from Day One. Why didn't Shimano do the same thing? If Shimano had planned to let third party hub/wheel manufacturers in on the Microspline party right away there is no question they'd have announced that when they announced the new XTR.

    So, uh, you're wrong. Just because you wish that most hub/wheel manufacturers will offer Microspline solutions when XTR hits the streets doesn't make it so.

    I think DT confirmed that they will have a Microspline freehub body for their DT240/350 hubs so upgrading will be simple.

    I'm interested in the Scylence hub, but Microspline and 12-speed is a don't care for me. I already don't use the 40/46t big cog on my 11s cassettes so I don't need another larger 51t cog that I don't use (dead weight).

    I'd like to see a regular Shimano freehub body for the XTR Scylence hub. If Shimano won't offer it, then I hope some small manufacturer will.

    I have two bikes with XTR Di2 so I'm also looking forward to the next gen Di2.

    Yes replacement for any DT Swiss 240 and 350 hub plus fits OEM wheels that come with DT Swiss 240/350 internals.
    Also in stock in NZ wholesaler.
    Yes you can just buy a freehub.

    The freehub (DT Swiss call a rotor) comes with a matching end cap.
    Saying for 142 and 148 hub's.

    Yes I have had prototype XTR and pre production in my hands.

    Not too the lock open because that is a SRAM thing.

    It's got the better (because of rebuild and servicing) Shimano clutch system.

    Yes not as good fitting in one's wheel.

    But I'll be fitting a 2◊12 Shimano drive train next year.

    I'm very impressed looking forward to better shifting.

    Why 2◊ because I Bikepack and like to have gears for the road too when Bikepacking in events.

    Not changing my chris king hubs for this. Hope they license the freehub body soon or I will go SRAM. Crazy that you have to change your hubs to be able to use the shimano stuff.

    It's not Crazy.
    Shimano freehub has been around from the 1980's and at the time one would run a Shimano or a Suntour freehub
    Than Suntour was gone and only one freehub for years (on MTB's)
    The SRAM can out with 1◊ and a new hub body.
    It's got a few issues but overall people a loved 1◊ use it.
    It's a SRAM design and Shimano looked at fixing the short comings.
    So a new better design is out and the start of a whole new set of drivetrains.
    CK will have a freehub body coming like White Industries dt-swiss etc.
    Be patient and go for a ride smell of fresh air and smile.

    microspline is already available from two other manus. chris king is about as proprietary as it gets ironicallly.

    starbike has alot of stuff but not everything. i think 11-51 cassettes just became available. im still waiting on chain shifter and chainring to complete my group (no brakes or hubs).

    The group set is partially available in Europe, and the rest of the group set is schedule to be available until the end of October.

    Just raced on the new pedals. Definutely tighter feeling. One of the seals already worked its way out. Shimano QC is doing great....

    Got cranks and rear derailleur in hand too. They look great. Cranks are a work of art.

    Starbike has everything but chainring amd shifter at this point. Not sure about brakes.

    Anyone know when the chainrings will be available? I have everything for the new XTR except the chainring. Absolute black is supposed to be coming out with an oval for the new cranks so will go that route if it comes out first. Thanks

    Only reason I've waited is I want to build new wheels but want the XTR hubs. Dragging on how long its all taking to be available.

    My understanding is that the official production release is now early December. The components that are available from Starbike and other online sellers is likely to be pre-production components ie the leftovers from all the roadshows and demo's.

    I guess thats possible but all the parts I have are in factory sealed boxes with all labels instructions, serial #'s etc. Look production to me.

    Yes, they would be 100% perfect components in sealed boxes, was not implying otherwise. For most components there will be no difference between pre-production and production, for some there might be some very minor (imperceptible) tweaks as a result of feed back from all the testers during the trials. It is quite likely that those components that you are missing are the ones they are tweaking.

So if your machine is not up to date, so what, enjoy! But if you do take on some of the new tech, it has the potential to make your deal even more fun and safe.

    What is the word on if the new XTR chain is backwards compatible with M8000 chainrings? I am waiting for the shipment of new XTR 4 pots brakes, shifter, cassette and DT Swiss microspline freehub.

    Xtr 9100 cassette issue- defect

    I installed the groupset a week ago, after ordering from bike-discount.de

    On the 1st ride , there were noises coming from the rear hub area. took the bike to the LBS, checking the micro-spline, cassette and rd, without finding anything. after a few days a friend of mine who got his new scalpel si told me that he is having the same noise.
    It happens when adding some pressure on the crankset,mostly on the higher gears( 45-39-33-28). My friend went to the Shimano dealer after spending alot of time trying to find the problem , as I did, and has been told that apparently there is a missing shims/spacer which they didn't provide and they are about to sent is separately.
    Its a shame that after so long, Shimano distributes a product that is incomplete. I spent 70$ on my lbs mechanic, and I am going to ask Shimano to compensate me.

    Has anyone else experienced the same thing ?

    You are the group's it has not been released in full yet and you being sold pre-production parts to try to get your groups ready to go if you wait a few months the whole group is coming with everything.

    That's life, move on it's going to be sunny tomorrow.

    I have my 12 speed xtr cassette, rear derailleur chain and shifter paired with raceface cranks and chainring with no noise or issues. about 100 miles on them over the last month. pre production or not saved hundreds and been riding them like an idiot.

    i'd presume the complete kit came on that bike from the factory chief.


    @Stamler, let us know what the spacers look like when you get them please.

    also, did you get an xtr chainring? they're not available at the moment and holding up my order.

    I am riding on a 18' Scalpel si so my only option is cannondale crankset or xx1 crankset due to the AI offset.

    I will let you know of course, waiting for an answer from Bike-discount as well.

    Terrible grammar aside, this pre-production parts are not readily available. Every place you order from they come in the genuine boxes. Unless you show proof of a retailer selling them, this is just nonsense. Even if they were selling pre-production, there is no way they would have the inventory to make it worth listing.

    It sucks that it's December and I still can't get this stuff easily. I know I can get it in Europe which is most likely what I would do but I still would like to see what the US retailers are going to charge for everything.

    starbike . I've got the cranks in hand alredy along with a few other parts. they have my cassette waiting for the chainring to come in to ship the rest. good and responsive customer service from them. they sponsor the weight weenies forum. good people.

    Production grade XTR was released in Au last week, excepting for the chainring. I believe Shimano is having some QC issue with the chainring.
    I got the full enduro kit (except chainring) all fitted and ready to go once I get a chainring. Have a chainring on order from both Shimano and Absolute Black.
    The cassette I received came with a plastic shim which goes on to the microspline free hub before the cassette.

    Really love the new xtr. I went from a shimano xtr 11 speed/e13 cassette to sram xx1 11speed to eagle xx1 12 speed and back to a sram xx1/e13 cassette and really never happy with any. the only one I could ever get completely dialed was the 11 speed xx1 sram but the 11-42 wasn't enough range. I always had issues with shifting quality on eagle and the e13 had good range but didn't shift as good as the sram cassettes. The new xtr has all the range I will ever need and shifts so smoothly. Plus was alot easier to set up and get dialed then eagle at least for me.

    Nice report! But I am waiting for the Di2. Sure is tempting however. Sounds like Shamano nailed it.

    I ordered an XTR Bronson last August initially with an October delivery date. It was pushed a couple times until December release. Now, my dealer says Santa Cruz is claiming delivery in March due to the delays caused by Shimano, and apparently the fire last year.
