    12 speed XTR Cassette spacer

I just got my 12 speed drive train kit.

Fortunately SHIMANO was able to include a simple hieroglyphic stating I need a spacer.

Unfortunately said spacer was not included in the box.

Does anyone have any idea where I can get this 10 cent part to enable my $600 drive train?

    Thanks

    Martin

I don't have that spacer and have over 200 miles on the new XTR with no issues. Shifts perfectly. I wonder why the spacer is needed.

Anyone had any luck obtaining this low spacer post sale? I got mine from bike-discount about 3 weeks ago and wasn’t included. After inquiring, they’re only telling me that “it’s not available as a spare part yet”. Thanks.

Looks like it might be a "seal/gasket" just to avoid dirt getting in all those splines and creaking like crazy. Its crazy thin and made of plastic...only logical idea.

Yep, I called my local Shimano distributor last Thursday and they put a spacer in the mail and it arrived today, even though I told them I bought the cassette from overseas. Great customer service Shimano!

Really? Are you in the states? Can you share their contact info? I called Shimano in CA and nothing; I’m dealing with my local LBS / SSC and they’re lost too.

I have over 400 miles on the new XTR without the spacer. Definitely not needed for shifting performance or alignment issues. Still amazed with how great the new XTR is.

Interesting...no creaking either? What hub did you mount this on? I've got a DT Swiss 350 hub that is only a year old and trying to figure out the cause of the creaking.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Thanks so much, I searched, but can’t find those diagrams.
Can you find one for the brake lever?

I've installed 9100A cassette on new I9 Hydras. Don't remember seeing spacer. Had a chirping creaking sound for first few riders but it's gone now. I'm still going to check box to see if I have this thing. Pics look like it would last about a minute. I also had a thin chrome piece come off of smallest cog after loosening lock ring that looked like crushed spacer. I actually think it was layer of chrome that came from 10t cog. These cassettes shipped initially as ICSM9100051 and then updated to ICSM9100051A. Mine is A model so I'm giving rep a yell to see if there is any guidance on this.

It's part number Y1X401500, CS-M9100-12 LOW SPACER and they run $1.00 for them. Any shop that sells shimano can get them.

the new cassettes (ICSM9100A) it comes pre-installed. Its held in place with a small amount of something sticky... if you look closely at the back of the cassette you can see it has a slight 'shine' to it that looks plastic.

This applies to the CSM8100 and CS7100 cassettes that have just been announced.

I heard from my LBS, that spacer is only there to reduce creaking between cassette and freehub body. Does not effect performance if not there. If you put some grease there instead during installation it does the same thing. Love my 9100!

I tried with and without the spacer ....and could get it to creak.
Easily solved by greasing the freehub body AND torqueing it down to spec with a big torque wrench.

Do you know what the difference between the ICSM9100051 and ICSM9100051A is? I'm seeing the ICSM9100051 version on serious sale now. Would be nice to get it on sale if there is no difference.
