Gen 1 5010 vs Gen 2 5010 (sizing, fit etc.)

    Hey guys,
I am 5'10 and used to own a Large Solo (5010). I sold it and kinda miss it lol. Thinking I might go back to 5010 but I did notice the gen 2 has different geometry.
Santa Cruz has been known for sizing small and my old Large fit me great. Wondering if they still are sized small, since I saw the top tube grew about .5 inches.
Can anyone let me know a bit about the size, fit and differences in the gen 2 vs gen 1 5010?

    Thanks

I can't help you with your question (although the 5010 cockpit seems pretty small so I wouldn't even think about going to a medium frame), but I was curious if you are still considering a Bronson instead of a 5010? It is the one thing that I mull over from time to time. Otherwise I also could not be happier with the 5010 once I put a 30t oval up front that seemed to really help with technical climbs.

I do know that the gen 2 Solo is a bit slacker with more aggressive geo. I tested a Bronson and didn't feel like it gave me any advantage on technical terrain. I do like that the 5010 is better for all day long rides and racing too.

The reach and stack of a large V1 5010 was 16.8 and 23.6
    For V2, a medium is close - 16.73 and 23.43
    V2 large is 17.52 and 23.78

It seems that the sizing has jumped one size bigger.

    V1 geometry.

I am 5'10" on a large V1 with 50mm stem and 760 bars. I rode a medium V2 5010 in a parking lot and it felt very similar. Not sure of the V2 setup though - perhaps stock setup.

5'10 is about 1,78m, right?, that is my height as well, and I am perfectly happy with my 5010 v2 size L.

    I'm 5 8" and have a medium v1 Bronson and a medium v2 5010 and the v2 5010 is a much better fit.

I would say go for the large at your height

Same height as you GBW, and i'm on a large gen 1. set it up with a 50mm stem with a 760mm bar, and the saddle set slightly forward. pretty much settled with the fit, been riding it for 2 years. Considering updating to a gen 2, but lost with the size. ride buddy has a medium gen 2 with a 50mm stem and a 740mm bar and it actually feels 'ok.' i'm guessing that slapping on a 760-780 bar and it would be just fine. buddy say's it looks "flickable" with me on it. unfortunately haven't tried a large cos i can't find one to sit on -- i hesitate to go large coming from my experience with my nomad 3. i tried a medium -- too tight. got a large... and it feels a bit too long for me at times.
would be interested to see what you finally get and hear about how it works for you. cheers!

Well, it all depends where and how you ride.
V1 felt way too short to me.
I am 5'8.5", 31" inseam and would go (if I was getting one) with a large and shortish, 30-40mm stem.
A large V2 solo has a short enough ST to run a 150mm dropper.
    WB is still very reasonable.
Reach of a large V2 is only 7mm longer than my large Nomad.
I like steep ST, so the seat would go all the way forward.
TT is 12mm longer than my N3, so still within my comfort.
I really believe a large would be a better fit for you.

Does anyone give any thought to the wheelbase on large vs medium V2? I'm 5'9" and rode a large over the weekend. Cockpit felt great (with a 50mm stem), but the wheelbase was pretty long. Not sure whether a medium with a 60mm stem makes more sense...

In my experience, the long WB worries are mostly unfounded and I would not consider the 116.4mm WB of the large V2 to be long by any means.
It will give you a nice mix of stability and agility.
I would take the right reach # with shorter stem over a short WB with long stem on any day.
If you liked the fit of a large with 50mm stem you would have to go with a 70mm one on a medium in order to get a similiar fit.
Don't be afraid of the longer WB, you will adjust in a short time, and it really isn't that long anyway...

How does the geometry compare between the large V2 and your large Trance? If I'm looking at the same specs, the large V2 reach is 445 mm and the large Trance Advanced is 439. If the Giant was too big, the large V2 seems like it would be too big too.

    I'm 5'10"

    I ride a large with a 60mm stem, fits like a glove.

What length stem did you use on the V1?

I think height is the absolute worst metric to go off. Need the inseam to tell the rest of the story.

I think I had a 60 mm stem with my V1. I seem to have a longer torso, shorter legs.

5'9 with a 30" inseam and I'm on a large v2 with a 50mm stem. I even fitted an xl if I'd gone down to 35mm stem. I'd stick with the large.
Wheelbase is long but with short stem and new geo, it steers telepathically but remains stable at speed. At first you do have to consciously keep your weight forward to stop the front scrubbing, but you soon adjust your riding style. Going faster on this than I ever did on my Mojo HD 160.

im getting confused.when they first launched the V2 5010 it said my 5'7stature needs small.now that they released the new color, it says 5 5" to 5 10" medium. I have the V1 and I'm medium on those.
