Went to the shop to get a new shifter cable for my cx bike...

Like I said. So after I got the cable I went over to check out the Salsa Vaya I had been looking into a bit. Just to see it in person. I instantly changed my focus to the steel Fargo next to the Vayas. I liked the robustness of them and that they take any size tire size I could ever want. I did glance at this ti Fargo on the end but thought it was too small for me for some reason being a 20" since I am 6'2". And then the price I knew might be a problem. Till I looked at the price. It was a 2013 and almost half price! It was some pocket change over the steel one. The upgrade in components alone made it worth it. That caught my attention. So we pulled it out and a swung a leg over and was like oh yeah. So with a few changes in the last couple days here it is. Trp cable hydro brakes, Salsa Gordo rims 36 spoke with Hope pro 2 hubs (the rear is a 10mm through axle), Thompson post, Time pedals, swapped the xo rear mech for an x9 type two I had laying around. I am taking it out in the forest today for a test run.

It does look nice but I can't abide drops, sti's and rim brakes. I've put a cromoto and some mavic open pro wheels on my old El-Mar Ti frame. I've gots to 40C knobblies and a pair of 26c smooth tyres so I'm all set for hacking and road sportives (although I won't be competetive).

Yeah I just love this thing. I just took it out for a couple and a half hours on gravel roads and single track. Lots of climbing and descending. It just carves up the gravel roads like no over bike I have ridden. I used to have to brake on the downhills and turns but this thing just rips with confidence inspiring stability. I did a 70 mile race a few weeks ago in the Oregon coast range with 10,000 feet of elevation and did it on my cross bike and was thinking of doing it on the cross bike again next year but after today I think I will take the Fargo. Its a hand full of pounds heavier but the speed and stability going down I think will more than make of for lost time due to a bit extra weight. As you can tell I really do love this bike. Salsa did a great job with this one. Cheers to them.

Yes - these Salsa folks certainly know how to make nice riding bikes! I've taken the Arch 29er wheels off my Spearfish and I've been riding the El-Mar Ti as a rigid MTB and I've been LURVING THAT!

Yeah I do not exactly know what makes it so sweet on the downhills. Not to say it is not great and stable at climbing also. It climbs like a goat. Super stable steering. I would guess its a combination of things that just add up to a really nice riding bicycle. And I do love the ride feel of Titanium. Ti snooter or whatever I really love titanium bikes.
