    Vaya Fenders

    Hi Guys,
after running my Vaya with 32s Marathon Racers and SKS Longboards, I'm looking to go back to bigger tires. It's probably coming down to Marathon Mondials or some Conti 42s.

However those will not fit unter the Longboards. SKS has the Bluemels in 55mm width. Anybody ever tried these on their Vaya. Not sure if they will fit.

Any other recommendations? Whats the widest in fenders you guys ever tried?

    Cheers,
    Kurbel

I have the SKS Longboard P50 with 40mm Clement MSO's. No issues with that combo for me. The tightest point is the front fork. The 50's just fit. I think you could go 55 with a tiny bit of trimming.

I have the same exact setup as hydrogeek. Fit is tight but it works. Cant imagine going bigger than 40c on this setup.

I have the Planet Bike Cascadia 29er, which is the only thing I found that can work with a 2" tire. They're 65mm wide. They required significant trimming and re-engineering to work. The tight spots are at the rear brake bridge (trim) and the fork crown (cut).

I installed the SKS longboard p50 fenders last night and I have a few questions for you guys that have done this already.

I mounted the fender on the front sides of the seat stay & chain stay cross beams. I wanted to mount them on the back side like I've seen some of you have with Vayas, but the bolt doesn't screw in easily. It might be because of the paint on the threads making difficult, but I was worried I would cross thread it. Any advice? Will it thread on the backside?

Probably just paint in the threads. Put a little grease on the bolt and run it in and out a couple of times to clear the paint. Or, you can run a tap through if you have one.

Running Handsome Cycles' Mud Butler fenders with 38mm Compass tires. Very happy with both.

So for sure it's safe for me to screw the bolt in on the backside? I don't have a tap so I'll have to use more elbow grease.

Yes, just make sure the bolt is set up straight on and thread it in. It shouldn't take a lot of effort to thread the bolts in. If you can't turn the multitool or wrench with your hand, then you might have the wrong thread pitch on the bolts. Shouldn't be the case tho, I think they are all M5 bolts.

With a full length front fender was getting too much toe overlap. Any suggestion for a shorter fender that would work with a up to 35mm tire?
