Spearfish Derailleur Hanger - Bad design or am I just unlucky?

So I got my 2013 SF in September of '13. I am now getting ready to be on my 4th derailleur hanger in less than 1 1/2 years. It seems like all it takes to bend this hanger is to look at it wrong. Seriously - my first three got bent in very minor little dismounts that I would not really even call crashes. And today, I had my bike upside down in the driveway and was getting ready to put the front wheel back on when it fell sideways and the hanger literally snapped in half.

I realize that the purpose of a hanger is to keep you from damaging a frame. But I rode a SC Superlight for 7 years, though many actual crashes and never had to replace a hanger on that bike. Is the Salsa just a bad design? It is much longer and thinner than the hanger on my Niner EMD.

At the rate I am going, I might need to buy my own CNC machine and start making these things myself. It might be cheaper.

I crashed my 11' Spearfish plenty of times and never broke one. I tweaked a few but never outright broke one. I did hate the two little allen screws that held on the 11' hangers (not sure if the 13's have the same thing).

Agree 100%. I rode a 2011 Spearfish, and a good friend has a 2012. We've gone through 6-8 between us. Bad bad bad design. Seems that the Wheels Mfg is a little better. That was on my SF when it got stolen.

No problems with the hanger on my new Santa Cruz Tall Boy That crook has saved me 100s of dollars in replacement hangers.

I have an 2012 El Mar (same hanger) and replace the hanger 1 to 2 times a year. My buddy has a spearfish and goes through even more. Frustrating especially because they are $30.

I sent an email to Salsa about getting new hanger screws and the guy sent me a whole new hanger. Nice of them. I will probably need it within 4 months at the current burn rate.
