Horsethief/Pony Rustler BB Crack
Two friends of mine have had two different frames each crack in the same place. Yes, that means 4 frames.
Anyone else have this issue?

Looked at my XL '16 PR, and it has cracks there too. Not cool. This PR frame is a 2nd warranty replacement for a cracked carbon HT. These cracks look like cracks in the finish, but with carbon it's hard to tell.
Do you know if the frames pictured above failed, or were warrantied once cracks observed?
Hmmm. More bike drama I don't need.

The black Horsethief was the first bike that cracked and it was warranted. My other friends' PR was also warranted.
They are now dealing with the second cracked frames.
Did it Fail? The black one developed a creak I think, but it didn't fail to the point of not being rideable as far as I know

Thanks for the reply. I can't stop thinking about my frame now. Visual appearing cracks have me concerned. Went on a 20 mile trail ride yesterday and made it through, but pivots (think it's the upper one) is making some serious clanking noise. Tore it apart tonight to clean, re-lube (yes checked hex bolt securing yoke to shock). Found signs of metal to metal rubbing on one side of the linkage - bearing at end of yoke to pivot link. Quite sure that is the source of my clanking. Possibly frame is flexing more than it should resulting in the rubbing/clanking? Not to positive it will go aware with only a clean and re-assembly done. Letting the Loctite dry tonight. Will ride tomorrow.
Just bothered that I need to be thinking about my bike during big rides. I ride in a big state forest and the last thing I need is a 10 mile hike out. Going camping and riding this weekend, so knock on wood all goes well. Think I'll bring it into the shop next week for a review.
This is what's going through my mind with your reports of cracks, and the leading indicators I'm seeing on my frame. (pics from HT Facebook group)

Oh man...is that your bike? That would make me very nervous. It looks like it just sheared off.

No, not mine. My warrantied HT's had signs of cracking at the upper shock mount to the top tube. Yeah - bad day for the rider of that bike.

I'm on my third carbon HT frame.
The first frame developed cracks below the seat collar.
The second frame developed cracks at the forward shock mount AND below the seat collar (for what it's worth, the seat collar on both frames was installed and tightened by my LBS - I assume it was torqued to spec).
So I'm keeping a close eye on my current frame.
I really like the bike but that picture above makes me nervous...

Yup. Will be on my 3rd seat stay, but this is the first time I've cracked the BB.
LBS is going to cut the headtube and send pics to salsa so I can keep it on the wall.

Here's a pic of my BB crack:

Also, 180 degrees from there you can see cracks in 2 places as well. So cracking all the way around was present:

I guess I’ll stick with aluminum...
I reckon I’ll stick with aluminum, or maybe go with a Kona Process 153...
