    Horsethief full travel?

May I ask you guys for an advice? My rear shock on my HT is a Rockshox Monarch with the dimensions 184x44. So far so good. I pumped the shock to get 40% of sag. Worked flawless. But I felt today that the rear end is bottomed out very easy when hitting gnarly terrain. So I removed all the air from the shock and full compressed the rear end to check the shock stroke. But I never reach the 44mm shock stroke. After 40mm the damper has a hard end and stops to compress more. Is this a custom tuned setup from Salsa or do I loose a lot of rear travel? 4mm on the shock are about 12mm on the rear end. Sorry for my looong post and thanks in advance for your help.

The recommended sag is 30% on the horsethief with Split Pivot. This document may help:

    Thanks a lot, appreciate it!

The document states that the rear shock of the horsethief should have 44.5mm stroke.
The Monarch on my Horsethief brings it to no more than 40mm. I think this is not normal.

With the shock empty confirm that you are getting that 40mm stroke. Then measure the eye to eye measurement to confirm it is 184mm ( you might find it measures short). It's not uncommon to have air trapped in the shock acting as a negative spring. Essentially you would be getting your full compression, but not the full extension.

please do not operate your Horsethief at 40% sag.
