    Frame prep?

    Hi guys,

Recently purchased a new El Mariachi frame which I'm building at the moment. I normally get my LBS to build my bikes but I've decided being single speed it should be a breeze to do it myself. I keep reading that I need to ream/face my head tube and face the bottom bracket.
    Is this necessary?

I didn't do either of those things when I built any of my bikes(El Mar included) and I'vve never had any issues.

I have done it on some builds, and I haven't done it on others. It just depends on the bikes and how they arrive. The two Salsas I've built have been really good, so that extra prep hasn't been necessary.

An On-One I built a number of years ago needed it. It also needed the disc brake tabs faced. Let me tell you that facing slotted IS disc brake tabs is a PITA.

For a steel frame, you absolutely be prepping the insides of the frame, though, with Framesaver or a similar product.
