    Fargo tire options

I'll admit right off that I know nothing about rims and tires. That said, I bought a Fargo a year ago with 29" 2.25 wide tires. Love the bike, but the riding I'm doing now is a lot of pavement and bike paths. The big tires are comfortable, but they seem like overkill for what I'm doing, they seem slow, and they are very noisy! I'd like to put on something more road like in a 38-40 mm tire. I have no idea what the rims on my Fargo will allow. I don't want to have to buy new rims or wheels so does anyone have some info on this?

If you still want to go offroad now and then, try Soma’s Cazadero of if you really want to do tarmac only, look at the Compass / René Hérse tyres, the Antelope Hill has a good reputation, but is expensive.

    rephrasing the question

I don't think I asked my real question clearly enough. What's the narrowest tire I can run on the stock fargo rim? And in the spirit of teaching a man to fish, how do you know that? What do you look at on the rim and what's the relationship to tire width? thanks.

Can you tell us what rims are on there now ? It all has to do with the internal width of the rim, that will give you an idea of what you can run with in that rim width. Example, if you have a 20mm internal rim some companies will say your optimal tire widths will be 25mm-47mm (numbers on the velocity USA website). So know the inner diameter is what can help us give you a better answer. Hope that helps in some way.

That website was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.

    Update:
Turns out that WTB has a table on their website and the rims my bike came with are 23mm and can take from 30 to 50 tires. Funny thing is they came equipped with 57s (2.5 inch) so go figure.

I have the Terrene Honali 50c tires on my Fargo. Good for road, dirt roads, and light gravel. Check them out.
