    El Mariachi Complete or Spearfish?

It may seem like an odd comparison, but hear me out.

I've been hoarding $$$ for a bike, have been planning on an El Mar Complete (hopefully in March). Part of the reason for the choice was the steel frame, which would provide a smoother ride than many aluminum bikes.

But, if I'm looking for comfort, wondering if I should be considering the Spearfish? From what I'm reading, it looks like the Spearfish will be about the same weight as the El Mar, right? And, the aluminum FS would be more comfortable that the steel HT, right?

I won't be doing much hard-core riding, mostly basic cross-country. Would it make sense to consider the Spearfish, or is it still overkill?

Well, a big difference in choice here for me would be the single speed-ability of the El Mar. You can get the rig right down to the basics of cycling- no derailleurs, no suspension to futz with, and just ride it.

If that doesn't have any appeal, and comfort is your #1 concern, a Spearfish is definitely a better rig. It will have the drawback of complexity, but it would be a smoother ride and would be a benefit on super-long adventures.

Me?If I could only own one bike it would be something like the El Mar which I could run single speed or geared. Front suspension or rigid fork, and I could always add a suspension seat post if needed.

El Mar would be my first choice.

In your situation I would go for Spearfish as for me I would go for El Mar and Spearfish as my 2nd bike.
