    El Mariachi 2009 vs 2012?

I am looking into getting an El Mariachi for SS 29er use. I was about to get the 2012, but then realized that my headset will not work, and hesitated. Now I have found a 2009, the red one with the matching stem, with the EBB for sale used.
Besides going from EBB to the adjustable dropouts, were there any other big changes between 2009 and the current El Mariachi? I want to be sure there is ample rear tire clearance, which my current frame lacks. I currently run an EBB with no complaints.

    THanks!

IIRC, the red El Mar was a True Temper frame, and the following years had switched to Salsa's proprietary "Kung Fu" tubing, which was supposedly a bit lighter. Can't comment beyond that, but I would have no heartache going with a newer El Mar, but man...do I LOVE that red!!

Just as an aside - the matching red stem is RECALLED, so proceed with caution. I have had 2 of the red El Mars - great bikes. The medium works a lot better for me on a number of levels.

    2012

    Hi Jason,

Get the 2012 frame. You won't be disappointed. I love mine and bought it specifically so a big tire would fit.
