The simple answer is that the Fargo has a taller stack, but these bikes don't really line up sizes for size due to the shorter top tube length on the Fargo (to accommodate the drop bars).

Check out bikegeo.net, it has a neat overlay that can really help when comparing different bikes.

Fargo does for sure, it is very comfortable riding position. I had an El Mar for awhile to and wasn't to fond of it and replaced it with a Krampus.

I have a '11 Fargo and a '12 El Mar. The Fargo is more upright riding the tops, but lower in the Woodchipper drops. If you're putting a flat bar on the Fargo, I'd say it would be more upright, depending on what stem you use.

Thanks. After playing with Bikegeo for a week, it looks like the El Mar and the Surly Ogre are essentially the same bike, and the Fargo isn't far off (at least from the seat post forward). I guess it's going to come down to a decision between thumb shifters or brifters for me.
