I asked Salsa. Here is their response:

The V2 Alternator plates were designed to work with our carbon Woodsmoke and Mukluk frames. They feature either a sliding or fixed position plate that offers different wheel positions and movement in in the plate rather than in the frame like the V1 dropout. Frames made for V2 plates are not compatible with V1 plates and frames designed for V1 plates are not compatible with V2 plates.

Further, because the 2.0 plates are designed to handle axle position and tensioning, the actual tensioning mechanism is different with built in tension and anti-slip features that are designed separately for drive and non-drive side tom combat different forces from braking and pedaling uniquely.

    I hope this helps.
