Seatpost bottoming out in frame? (slam that seatpost)

Has anybody run into this before? I'm looking to test a 150 mm dropper post, which would basically be slammed against the collar on my '13 Altitude. Will then move it to an Instinct once I've ordered that frame

I vaguely recall my old Element MSL not allowing me to slide the 425 mm post I had all the way in - it would bottom out somewhere between the lower TT-ST junction and the BB.

Does anybody know if this is the case on the newer bikes (2013+) and if so, how much can I maximally insert a post? I'm looking an E*13 post that would go in 224 mm from the top of the seatpost collar.

Every bike is different. Newer bikes have the samr limitation but some have deeper drill outs than others. I think the slayer might be able to accommodate that but you need to try it out at the lbs. Ive contacted several mfg and they never know for sure. Ibis has these specs on their website and they have a chart showing which seatpost fits. The hd4 was designed with long droppers in mind.

Unfortunately no dealers in my area have anything in stock - ever. Since it's cutting it so close I'm going to go for a 125 post, then. The 150 would at best have 2 mm of room until it hits the collar anyway.

You should try using a standard seat post to measure the amount of insertion in the frame, if its enough then order the 150. The shops near you should have a 30.9mm seat post on hand.
