    730 Growler for my wife

Hey, my wife has been talking about beginning mountain biking. Anyways if we buy her a bike that she doesn't use our son in 2 years will be a Med side anyways.

We really like rocky mountain all our bikes are RM. I have a 2015 instinct and my son a Edge.

    My only problem with the bike is the gearing 1 x 9 ? 22 x 36 I'm really worried that she'll run out of legs as a beginner. I have a 2 x 10 22 x 36 and in good shape and I'm really happy on long climb with the 22 x 36.

Of course she won't be doing the same trails as I do and it will be more more mellow.

is it a deal breaker ? in that price range most bike are 3 x

The 2017 Growler 740 and the 2018 Growler 40 and 50 use a 1x11 with a 42T big cog, that would likely be a better bet. The 27.5+ tires and wheels are heavy so that extra low gearing will be welcome. The OE wire bead 27.5+ tires are 1000gms each.

If this is an intro MTB, consider the Soul 10 or 20 to get the 27.5 wheel diameter but a lot less wheel/tire weight.
