    2018 Rocky Mountain Altitude weird wear/ride 9

I have some weird wear on my altitude. I haven't changed the ride 9 chip, ever. Tho I'm considering it at this point as I've taken time to get used to the position it came in.

Now looking at all available postions in this guide, (http://www.bikes.com/sites/default/f...itude_EN_0.pdf) I'm noticing that the configuration my bike is currently in, is not the same as any of the options listed in the guide.... what's going on here? How is it even possible.

Furthermore, see that grey area to the left of the ride 9 chip, that looks like completely not normal wear to me, or is this normal / to be expected? I can't find another bike online that has the same wear.

Help!! (yes, the bike needs to be cleaned!)

mtbr doesn't do well recognizing orientation in cellphone pics.

By grey area, do you mean this one?

You're in the center-neutral position. Only thing that matters is the bolt location, considering there's multiple ways to get to that position.

Also, bikes hate being washed as much as they hate not being ridden, in regards to long term health.

Hope I didn't say anything that would cause you to over-react or dramatize things further.

Looks like it's just unpainted/nude "carbon" (thermoset carbon fiber reinforced plastic). I presume that the thickness of the paint would've made that part interfere with movement, so they masked it off.

Is this enough evidence for you to consider it normal?

    You bet man, thank you!

What’s your thoughts on the ride 9 position?

I left my RM in the center position for everyday riding, but had the large chip oriented so it'd be more convenient to switch it to slack/low (pos 1) for possible bike park days (which never happened). You're already set exactly how I described.

Shouldn't even be close enough to where it'd rub. Frames are full paint from the factory. There should be a spacer between the frame and the linkage, easily visible. Take the shock out (or just out of the top mount) and cycle the suspension. Does it rub? If there is a spacer there and it is still rubbing, it could be a dead bearing.

Hi, that isn't rub, that's where the paint is masked off to avoid interference. It shows the sweep of the link through full compression.

Thanks Rocky! I appreciate your following up. I couldn't actually figure out how it could have been rubbing, perhaps a moment of panic on my part. Nice to know all the good folks here, including you, has our backs!

Is that particular paint finish thicker than the other colors?

As a matter of fact it is... Note near the dropout the 2 tone paint: bottom is blue. So the whole thing is painted blue, masked off, then painted red over top.
