2017 Thunderbolt - Main pivot bearing

    Hi,

My TB eats main pivot bearing. Every 80-90 hours of riding I have to change the bearing as it starts to creak because the bearing does not spin well to say the least.

The new bearing feels normal butn when I press it in the cup of the chainstay, it is harder to spin. Way better than the bearing it replaces but I think there's too much pressure from the which lead to premature bearing failure.

The igus bushings from the rest of the bike are the original ones and still runs great but there's the third pair of bearing I put in the main pivot.

Is this normal? I mean, I would have thought that the bushing would fails before the bearings.

The bearing surfaces in the chainstay are probably a tad to small. Most likley due to bad tolerances.

I have similar problems on my 2017 TB, but not that severe.

Email rocky and ask and see what they say.

Or you could have a machine shop have a go at fixing the bearing surfaces.
Should still be a press fit though.

My last bearing set ran for 30 hours before it starts to creak again and it is now almost seized...

I sent an email rocky about it and see what they propose.

My 17 T-Bolt is silent, almost 2yrs in & never maintained anything other than the chain, bike is rarely washed. I know, it's due for some kind of tune-up, this winter I guess.

RMB answerd my mail and the think that the cup might either be too small or somewhat oval.

They sent the cad file with dimensions and tolerances so I can measure it and if it is off, I can bring the chainstay at my LBS to submit a warranty claim.

swm: Except for the main pivot, the bike has been flawless.
