MN High School League Mountain Biking

This past weekend, the MN High School Mountain Bike League was in Rochester, MN for the second of 4 races. My oldest is not yet old enough to join, but he is gaining interest in the sport. We took him out there to see some of the racing with hopes of generating more enthusiasm. While we were there, I took a few pictures. Here is some of the good stuff from the event.

    Staging for the boys races

Finally a use of a baseball diamond that makes sense

Action shot about 0.5 miles from the start. This is right before the trail started entering the singletrack.

    Trophies that are shelf worthy

Here is the start of the Boy's Varsity race. While the camera angle didn't show it, there was a relatively steep climb just as the trail curved back to the left.

Our local paper was there. They gave a very nice write up in the paper (which was on the front cover today).

The local TV news was there for a story

And finally, here is the Facebook page of the MN league.

If you have a chance to watch a high school league race, it is worth your time. It is so inspirational to see kids of all shapes and sizes, skill levels and determination go out and have some fun. I wonder if my oldest will be eager to join next year. I hope so but will let it be his decision.

I can only hope that by the time my kids are in high school, there is an MTB team if there isn't one already.

When my kids started middle school there wasn't a MTB club. We started one. Get involved, make it happen.

Here is how to start one:
    Start a League – NICA

These things start with grass roots movements.

Our town has had a very strong response and support from the local bike shops, too.

I haven't yet volunteered to help, but after seeing the race, I'm ready too.

Thanks for the info. Living in a mountain community that is always building new trails and is trying to become the most famous mountain bikeing destination in the country this should be easy.

Hey, I was there too! I helped set the course on Saturday and course marshalled on Sunday. Next time I want to ride sweeper though - wasn't sure this time if I could keep up, but after riding the course and seeing the times they rode, I think I could easily keep up with all but maybe the varsity races. It was killing me to have to stand and watch everyone else ride.

Anyway, it was a fun event and I hope it continues to grow.

This is awesome and those trophies are sick! I really wish there was an MTB team at my high school.
