    I ride a **** because...

Just for fun. Some people love fat tire bikes, some love gravel bikes others love downhill bikes. Whats your fav and why? (not a brand, but a style)

    I'll start

I ride a single speed because it makes me feel more connected with the bike and thus the trail.

I ride a low end mostly stock bike from my LBS. The only change was a new saddle. I ride this because it works for me. I'm not a technical rider looking for black diamond trails. Most blue and green trails work perfect for me.

A pony because I have a pair of zircon encrusted tweezers.

    Oh wait, MTB's...

I use a different "tool" depending on the job... FS, hardtail, two different rigid SS's for many things and gravel bike more for work commutes and ~50% of gravel rides.

Tires for me: nothin >3.0" front and up to a 2.4" rear is fine (2.0 front / 1.8 rear on gravel bike).

I have carbon and Stan's wheel builds and don't notice a massive difference between them.

I ride a $500 BSO just to annoy all of the elitists. To make them gawk and wonder how and why I'm on the same trail with them. Kinda like how Shiggy rides a 2x6 drivetrain, just because he can.

I've had my ass kicked by many a Kmart bike. All I say is more power to them and they're obviously in better shape than me

Party foul. You specifically asked what style of bike is your favorite, then stated your favorite bike had one gear. (right answer!, but it's not a category of bike). SS hardtail would have fit better.

You are terrible at this game. OP specifically stated "not the brand of bike", but the style. Fail.

    (nice bike BTW)

I hear ya, my AC rides really nice so it's hard for me to blame you, but what do we need to do to get that Unit to the top of the list? If I had to guess your probably just subconsciously mad at it for having so many gears. Try removing that dangly down thingy by the rear axle. Less shifting = more enjoyment.

If I had to answer this question previously I would have said my favorite bike the last few years was my rigid SS 29er. Hands down, no question.

    I ride a **** because...-img_6805.jpg

Late this summer I finished my 29+ hardtail. I spent most of my ride time on it this fall. With a 120mm fork, a 170mm dropper, and 3" tires it's absolutely hilarious to ride every time I get on it. So much fun, so many smiles per mile.

I actually bought an XT 1x11 drivetrain but last minute I decided to set it up SS first. No surprise, I was having way too much fun with one gear so it now lives as a SS.

    I ride a **** because...-img_7334.jpg

I'm still surprised how much I want to grab this bike when it's time to go ride. I just can't get enough.

My SS cross bike is #3 on the list. My fatbike is #4. Truth is I truly enjoy riding and I'm happy with whatever I'm on, so long as I can ride it for the next 5 hours...

I ride an OG Surly Krampus because it is simple, yet versatile, and felt/feels great to ride. It fits and allows me to ride the way I want to. Simple rigid steel. The color was a bonus, even though I didn't really like it at first...I love it now.

I allows me to ride flowy techy singletrack, or bash though places that have not been ridden. It will allow me to bikepack in the future as I prepare for that...

I ride a mutt of a hardtail because its easier for me to spend a little bit here and there than to buy a new bike.

10 years ago I bought an XC 29er hardtail, because that seemed like a good enough all-around bike and more aggressive geometry seemed to be reserved mostly for heavy full suspension bikes that I couldn't afford. Over time I installed a -1.5° headset, a shorter stem and 760mm bars. Then I switched to 650b wheels and replaced the original 100mm fork with a used 120mm thru-axle fork. During that time it has also gone back and forth between 2x9, 1x9, SS and fixed gear. And a rigid fork for periods as well. I guess I'm bike-ADD

I ride a geared titanium 29'er soft tail because it rides like a hard tail, but is a bit more comfortable for those 30-70 mile days in the saddle. There are no pivots and no shock to maintain. The 1x9 drivetrain is simple, durable, inexpensive to maintain, and replacement parts are cheap. Also, titanium is durable and easy to have repaired if something does happen. Finally, I was able to build this bike up very inexpensively and would rather spend money on travel than on bikes.

No worries she is right up there, between the 2 I haven't ridden my Heckler in 2+ months. I've also just been riding local, so the Heckler is sitting around for a bit.

Another vote for steel singlespeed here. Not because I'm a retrogrouch, or elitest, but because I can't afford the money or time to maintain a fancy FS bike.

My 'me time' is limited, and I'll happily give up a fair amount of BRAAAPP-ability to know that as long as there's a little wax on my chain, and some sealant sloshing around in the tires, I'm ready to ride.
I do not enjoy (nor does my family) secluding myself in the garage to service forks, shocks, pivots or fiddle with derailleurs. I did this *A LOT* back in the day when I had a C'Dale Prophet that I treated like a DH sled. Something was always "in need of attention" on that thing.

My money isn't endless either, and my $1200 boutique steel frame that has custom powdercoat and stickers is much "nicer" than a $1200 alloy FS frame that likely doesn't include the $300 rear shock.

All of this is nicely facilitated by the fact I have found my self a group of friends that all ride plus-tired singlespeeds, about half are rigid.
MTBing is a social activity as much as anything, so the 'fitting in' is an acknowledged factor.
I like my bike. I don't scoff at those beautiful carbon wonderbikes, I'd love to ride one, but I ride to hang out with friends, earn my beer calories, and it makes me smile. With minimal extra work outside of saddle-time.

I ride a Ti hardtail cause my fatass does way too much climbing. I enjoy the simple classic hardtail lines and enjoy riding the same trails as the enduro bros on my hardtail. Sometimes they’re faster, sometimes I am.

I'm on 165/180mm 29pd 27.5 slack enduro bike. I like the natural root/rock/gnar. The steeper the stupider the better. If i'm not sure its possible to ride, thats the kinda riding i like the most.

Most of the time it turns out I can ride it.

Ive been riding rigid SS for 10 years now, I love all style of bike but theres nothing like one gear and no suspension. Also I like to get rowdy on these bikes, they have seen plenty of Double Blacks and I welcome the challenges every time! I can't vouch for carbon or titanium but smile comes to my face every time on Aluminum and steel!

My most ridden bikes are a Turner RFX, 170mmF, 160mmR, a Dedacchi Supercross cyclocross bike, used for cross and gravel racing/ riding, a Cannondale SuperSix Evo road bike and a Bianchi DISS converted to 27.5 single speed.
I ride the road bike for overall fitness which improves every aspect of my riding. I ride the cross bike to experience the roads and trails differently( I ride a lot of singletrack on it when Im running the gravel setup). I ride the singlespeed for its simplicity, but also is a great training tool for general riding. But mostly, I ride all the above bikes so that I appreciate my Turner even more. I do huge rides with lots of climbing on the Turner, which is a 30lb, big travel, enduro rig, which rides like a 24lb XC bike on climbs and descends like a 37lb DH bike.
