Do you find yourself doing this

When you drive from point A to point B running errands or out for a drive do you look for bike routes? I know this might be more specific to road riding but I have found some cool entrances also to some trails.

So I have this knack for not taking the mainstream roadways when the wife and I need to get somewhere in the gasaholic. It drives her nuts but i find it interesting. Sometimes I will look on the map and check out some routes not knowing the outcome and just go check them out.

So am I the only one that does this?

all the time...

I love taking different routes to places. Not only in town, but when I travel to other parts of North America (mostly Ontario though) My friends and I often take the "old" back roads that predate the highways. I'd say on average it takes about 30 minutes longer per 200 km's traveled (around 125 miles) at least in the more densly populated areas. I once found a long streach of freshly paved road with no other vehicles around that ran along a raspberry farm, that was the smoothest and best smelling drive ever...

Mom called it "The Scenic Route", drove her apeshit.
These side trips normally took 2X's as long as the Usual Route.

The "Scenic Gene" must have been passed on to me.
A co-worker with a sick auto noticed I'd never gone the same way twice.
She never knew there were so many ways to & from work :D

Oh yeah, although I got somewhat cured a few years ago when I took a "shortuct" across the Oregon Cascades with my wife and daughter. Ended up on unmarked gravel logging roads, which got progressively rutty and bumpy (in a Ford Escort), Seems like we spent 3 or 4 hours driving through the woods, no other cars, no towns, and darkness coming on. I've never been so relieved to see pavement. My daughter was awful cranky, but my wife saw the humor in it, once we were safe on the highway again. Her dad was pretty famous for his shortcuts, so I guess she's used to it.

I still take the occassional "shortcut", and you should hear my daughter whine when I do! :p

See I knew it wasn't just me

I am showing her this tonight.... "The Scenic Route" rules! I bring this up because the other day I took us over the mountain and down into town, L at foo, R at foo1, L,S,R,R,S,L and then look dear this is the road we can take to get back over the hill to go home :D

She looked at me and said, I like my route better and I am HUNGRY!

Ok so now you know one of my routes so if I never call you to tell you I am on this road you know to come look for me! She smiled, then uttered; Yeah right!
