Bent Top Tubes - I hate them......

I love bikes, but I do not like bikes with bent top tubes
I realise it gives a better "standover" but they look just damn wrong

if the saddle tube needs more strength then put a small diagonal from the top tube to the seat tube
but do not bend the top tube it ruins a bikes aesthetics

if you disagree with me you are wrong........(you are either with us, or against us )

You can do whatever you want with your own saddle tube on your own time. But I wouldn't try to bend it.

I've bent the top tube on 2 bikes so far, one up on a car rack (garage) and one that fell on a rock. I hate bent top tubes too.

Tried crossing a log bridge. Stalled mid-way cause of a knot from a cut off branch. Put a foot down, but was still wobbly. Ended up having to jump off to the side, and took the bike with me. About 6-7' feet down, there was a ton of leaves and soft dirt, on which I landed with the bike still between my legs. It was a fun memory, rather than a painful memory. *praises standover clearance*

I've questioned if the seat tube gusset is unnecessary material being added: http://forums.mtbr.com/general-discu...s-1063242.html

Now I wonder why women-specific bikes are designed with so much more standover clearance than gender-neutral bikes...

I'm not a fan of "swoopy" top tubes, I like straighter lines, cleaner look. And you can get plenty of standover with a straight tube.

I prefer straight tubs and ^as above the swoopy stuff no matter what, less likey... but then I dislike swoopy downtubes more. I understand the reason and it won't stop me riding them, but I think they look terrible.

I don't know if I was better off being ignorant of those terms (cisgender, SRS, etc.) or not... didn't even know about the Q part...

Anyways, I wonder if the people who dislike "swoopy" tubes, are bothered by how aircraft flight paths are "curved", as if they would be faster taking straighter looking paths.

F practicality, add another piece and a couple more attachment points! Work a long weld, including in a tight area, between the top-tube and downtube, or fill up the joint with putty*! *wonder if the Evil Following's seat tube-top tube joints are puttied

*shrug* I'll take whatever has a better result in the end; function over form.

It's placebo. They made them a very long time ago when ladies all wore long dresses so they could step through the frame instead of swing over it.

It is pointless and usually just costs them a good place for a water bottle

Looks like Canyon is did away with the "bullneck" kink behind the headtube, and oversized their seat tube in their latest design.

At first I wasn't too keen on my bent top tube, but immediately after throwing a leg over it I somehow managed to forget all about it.

What about bent/swooping down tubes? Some of these bikes have a straight top tube but a
bent down tube, or a straight down tube but a bent top tube.

my mother used to make beef liver, then feed it to me, my brother and sister telling us it was "steak".

i have never been able to endure the smell of cooking liver since childhood.

So long as my tackle has sufficient clearance/doesn't get hung up, I don't care what sort of top tube is on there.

Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I can't say I've ever seen a dual-sus bike that I would say is all that "beautiful" - they are functional machines, imo.

As for hardtails, some people know how to make it look good, some don't. Same with bent downtubes, chainstays, etc. I'd happily take a Sklar frame any day!

Why? Because people come in all different sizes, and no-one, male or female, wants to bash their privates on their top tube.
