well, nothing quite that specific, but yes, i've found myself coming accross the back side of signs i wish i hadn't seen.
Take the long cut, we'll get there eventually.

    The sign specifically says:

"Hunting, Mountain Bikes, Motorcycles, Off Road Vehicles or Hikers Permitted"

Looks like an invitation to me!

    Actually, you added a comma.
It says "Hunting Mountain Bikes, Motorcycles, etc.....Permitted"

No but I have found myself on the wrong side of "Private - No tresspassing" signs before. Funny they didn't put signs or a gate on the other end of the road I was on.....

Sorta... Sedona, AZ - Bell Rock.

Last year while riding out there for the first time, we followed a map (book map, internet map and bike shop map) out to Bell Rock. One map showed NO, the other YES and the third said, "go ahead." :-) At one point an old painted steel sign post said NO BIKES. What to do? LOOK, two other bikers went this way already today! It must be okay. Fell for that one more than once in Sedona (another story, another day). So, around Bell Rock we went. Sweet little single track with just a couple hikers. Trail did look too small for mtn bikes. Sure enough, at the other side of the rock there's a BIG NEW SIGN saying something to the fact NO BIKES - $600 fine! I think it was $600. Luckily, no rangers in site. Whew! Now if that new sign had been on the other side also, we certainly wouldn't have gone that way. Yep, my poor judgement that day.

Your sign, sounded like you were able to read it AFTER you climbed over the gate. So you'd already ridden through the range and were exiting the area! If so, you're lucky day that day!

Rode through this area to get to a trail in Singapore (took the picture on the way out). As we rode through there, all I could think about was how bad could a caning really be?...:

West pac '94. Stopped in Singapore for a couple of days. Borrowed a bike from ships company and went for a refreshing ride. The Singapore Navy guide I had with me showed me the trail.
