hells yes! 'bout 6 weeks ago i bought a NiteRider HID and i haven't looked back! Bright enough to use on the trail by itself, and bright enough to be mistaken for another car while commuting!

I love mine. Even though I still use the "Coffin" for work, and play.

awesome! I wish I was car-free, but I find it impossible with an infant.

we still drive as little as possible.

I think you will find life better. And don't be afraid to rent a car once in a while. It's still MUCH cheaper than owning a car if you do it once in a while. And you get a nice new car and dont have to deal with the hassles of ownership.

    uhhh....

i think you guys have a slightly wrong impression. as much as i wish i were THAT hardcore, i DO plan on getting a car before too long. not sure when or what just yet; we'll see. however, for the time being, i'm just on my bike. i'm not in a huge rush to go deeper into debt with a new car payment added onto my student loan payments!

Even if you are going back to cars soon, at least you can say you had the experience. I have been a cycling commuter for almost six months now and yesterday was the first time I bummeed a ride to go run an errand (finally dropped below thirty degree), needless to say I live in a college town and everything is less than two miles from my dorm-step.

Agreed. I went without a car for three years, and though I know every snowy icy winter day was pure misery, I can't remember any of that now that it's been another three. And what do you know? I wrecked my car a week ago, and am getting back in shape faster than I ever thought.

What I remember most of all though, is how I thought it'd be social suicide, but was pleasantly suprised. You know, when you're a kid and everyone makes the biggest deal about what a loser you'd be to still be riding a bike when everyone has cars? Well, I moved to three new cities in as many years, and every time I'd show up somewhere new, I'd ride in. People would always remark, "Wow, you're that guy who rides all that way every day?" "You must be in great shape..." "must have a lot of stamina..." "It's raingin, let me give you a ride home..." Meeting people, meating people, you know. It was very enjoyable. I've realized it's a lot harder to do that sort of thing when you don't have such a conversation piece with you everywhere you go.
Nothing left to lose, & half mad.
