Real Mountain Bike Mojo in Action

13-year old Mikaela from Burlington, VT is in need of a liver and kidney transplant.

Ibis Cycles, Fox, SRAM, and some local bike shops were awesome and all pitched in to donate this bike.

Donate a little for a good cause and hey, you could just get lucky and win a sweet Ibis Mojo SL.

The winner picks the size and color. $5 per chance or 5 for $20-

    Help if you can. Thanks.

If I were to win (fat chance), I think I'd just tell them to sell the bike and give her the proceeds from that too.

    Hi VTmojo,

I just donated as I for one can relate to a lot of what your family is going through.

With that being said, I lost my dad less than a month ago due to kidney cancer and even though he had health insurance, it was extremely expensive after looking at the final bill when I total it all up. AMAZING!!

I also have a 13 year old and would DIE if I was to loose him.
My heart goes out to Mikaela and her family for these hard times!!

God Bless and I pray for her to a healthy recovery.

    ~Mike

    Hi Mike,

Thank you for the kind words. I'm so sorry for your loss. Mikaela is the daughter of my good friend and mountain biking buddy, Mike (VTpossum on this forum). He is following this thread and I know all the words of encouragement mean a lot to him and his family.

Thank you for the donation and good luck on the raffle.

    -Tom

All the best to Mikaela and family and hoping for a full recovery and hoping that efforts like this allow the required funds to be raised.

Donated - I doubt I would have donated in the past, but now that I have kids it changes your mindset and helps one to imagine what this family is going through.

Come on folks we can easily spend our money on shiny new parts for our rides and discuss it on these boards endlessly. How about helping a little girl get an upgrade that could save her life. Easy decision - Donate now.

Done. Liver and kidney disease is a really tough one. I lost my father to it a couple of years ago and it was a rough experience.

I'll be praying she gets what she needs and praying for Mike's family. Waiting on a donor is one of the most gut wrenching experiences you can have. And then your relief is tempered by some family's tragic loss that allows your loved-one to live on. You simply can't imagine the range of emotions unless you've been there.

Donated. I will post this on my local bike club forums too. Another good idea may be to include this link in an email and send it to some family and friends! I don't know this girl or her family but I hope they get an overwhelming response.

    We have a winner!!

Check the update on the website for more info about the winner. Random.org picked Laura’s lucky number, # 2349.

A big thank you goes out to ALL who participated, thanks to you we raised a TON of money for Mikaela and her family.

    Here are the numbers:

Total money raised for Mikaela’s transplant related expenses: $21,215.00
    *5370 tickets were purchased
    *737 people donated
    *Average donation was $28.79

While I could go on about this great bike raffle and the importance of the fundraising campaign, let me tell you what’s happening with Mikaela. On March 30th, Mikaela started dialysis and on April 1st, Mikaela’s dad, Mike, was cleared as a live liver donor! These two events represent a new and positive direction for her. While Mikaela's transplant journey continues, know that your donation to the campaign is considered a vital part of the support system that her family depends upon, this is the real Mojo.

Thank you everyone, including our very generous sponsors:

    • Ibis Cycles
    • Fox racing
    • SRAM
    • iRide in Stowe, VT
    • The Skirack in Burlington, VT
    • Earls Cyclery and fitness in South Burlington, VT

Thank you the Bike Clubs who helped market the event:

    • Vermont Mountain Bike Association
    • Fellowship of the Wheel
    • Brewster River Mountain Bike Club
    • Stowe Mountain Bike Club
    • Mountain Bike Vermont -MTBVT.com

And New Duds Inc. for helping with the great Tee shirts.

    Thank you all!
