    Good job! MTBR Rider Map!

On a photo site I'm on they have a map from frappr.com that people can post where they are from. I thought it'd be cool to do so with the MTBR people. Its free, and its located here:

Working for the evil empire down the road, of course. Where else does a cyclist work in Wi? Thinking of buying FSP's old Moonhead brand just for kicks now that he's gone. I dunno. Getting old like everyone else around here. The bigger question is what were YOU ever doing in Oconomowoc?

You're working for the big T? Damn, what's the world coming to? I escaped from Texas and went to HS in Oconomowoc. I escaped there upon graduation. My senior year in HS I was living on my own and used to rent an old two story house that was right next to a Phillips 66 gas station and the copshop (I was evicted under copshop supervision while my blue-haired landlady repeatedly screamed, "They've got girls up there!!!"). It's probably long since been torn down. Good times. Good times. I'd imagine there has got to be some great riding around Kettle Morraine.

Well hell hell, look at this! A little O-town reunion. Pretty crazy. I grew up in Oconomowoc, worked at the big T, and swore one day I'd escape to Co. I finally did, lost everything, got suckered back to Wi, started Moonhead, met Shake, and finally made it back to Co for good a couple months ago. Now Shake has my job, and I see I'm what, several minutes from Anvil? Weird!

Shake, I'm telling you man, those guys will want ridiculous money for my brand name. Reality played a relatively small role in the game over there.
Nothing left to lose, & half mad.

Woah, OHS. Those were some days. The school is like a penitentary now. Seriously, it's huge, and there's guard shacks all over. You can't drive or out without a pass. The money in the town is slowly moving out toward I-94, and the town is starting to get desperate to keep people (the right kind of people, of course) around. The whole notion that it's some sort of upper-middle-class utopia is only beleived by the elderly people who run the place. Kinda weird, really. Well, there was some good riding, but it's all been shut down. Everyone I know is a roadie, and not the easy-going type either. The shops proclaim the mtb is dead, since the only 2 trail park left (the Emma Carlin & John Muir trails) sees 99% of the traffic in the entire Madison/Milwaukee/Chicago area. The trails are shredded, making the parks dept look on us as being every bit as destructive as the horsietypes say we are. Bad. At work, we had to buy a bunch of territory across the way and build our own damn private trails on it. It was getting embarrasing when visiting industry folks were in town and there was nowhere to ride. That's what life in beautiful Oconomowoc is like today. Not very uplifting, is it... sorry. Someday, I'll get out there to see the legendary Colorado blondes frolicking in their hiking boots along the front range.

You can actually drag the point around after you've narrowed it down by your zip code.

    I predict 500 replys and 2000 views

I added myself to the list.

    Who can resist?

I predict this post may out last those on such topics as "Pot on the Trail, Why You Love/Hate Pete, George Bush as a Mountain Biker/Savior/Satan" and other topics that just would not die.

Add yourself to a close-by city that it will take, and then go into your profile and use the little map to drag your pin to your real city/home/area.

Ok, the buzz was just starting to wear off. I registered, put my pin on the map and uploaded a photo to the MTBR Group Photos section. Then I see a picture of a beautiful half-naked woman supposedly uploaded by MtNBkEGrL.

I guess the big question is "Is this a photo of MtNBkEGrL?" If it is, she takes the cake for being so bold to share it with us. If not, she takes the cake for being so bold to put such a photo up. Either way, thanks.

Not the first person in Germany, but hopefully not the last. Looking for some riding buddies in the area, feel free to shoot me a line. Anybody who's headed to Europe for a vacation feel free to contact me as well.

I was just there in Prague a couple of weeks ago.

We went to Karlstein Castle, which was closed. My wife and I hiked around, and there was this sweet (but short) singletrack down the backside of the castle to the road. When I was walking it, all I could think of was railing it on my bike.

Sometimes you gotta think like a criminal...

If you are going to stay one step ahead of the criminals, you gotta think like one. The first time I looked at this I thought it was pretty cool. I just opened it up again and had an uneasy feeling. Wouldn't this be a great tool for a bike thief! Instead of driving around looking for open garages you can actually find were mtn bikes are down to the street level.

Don't know, maybe I am an alarmist. Seems like a little too much info. Think I will pass this one up.

A thief would only know your zip code from this. The markers are just put in the center of each zip code. And if they went through my entire zip code (or even my street) breaking into every house and apartment, they'd probably find a lot more to be interested in than my bikes. If I wanted to get paranoid about something, there are at least a million other things I'd be more concerned about.

Sure, you can if you want to, I suppose. If I were thinking like a thief, I wouldn't waste time going through all the trouble of reseatching every post made by everyone who put themselves on that map to see what bikes they have, and then drive all around the country hoping that those particular people may have dragged their marker to their house or street, only to then see if theres a viable way into their house... I'd go downtown, and snip a lock with a bolt cutters, throw the bike in the back of a pickup, and have my accomplice drive off. Actually, I'd probably steal something actually worth the penalty of getting caught, like bearer bonds or cars or something. The only reason to steal a bike is because it's been made convenient enough to do so. Going off this map is as good as picking houses at random hoping to find a Ferrari.
