    Iditarod sprint finish!

it's coming. The Nome racers have been on exceptional trail, unprecedented for the southern route. Jay Petervary and Aidan Harding are on the final 70 mile stretch and separated by about 30 minutes after 900+ miles and more than 16 days of racing across Alaska, on fat bikes, in the winter. You wanna talk passion? They've got it.

Records about to be broken and precedents about to be set thanks to the incredible weather and trail conditions:

*Southern Route Nome record-Jay or Aidan,
    *First Singlespeed(Aidan) to Nome
*First woman to complete the Southern Route/Only woman to make it to Nome human powered twice-Tracey Petervary
*Southern Route foot record- Tim Hewitt
*First person to complete the Yukon Arctic Ultra and the Nome race in the same year/month- Jerym Brunton

There is an incredibly slim chance that the overall Alaska Ultrasport Nome record of 17 days, 2hrs could be broken.
There is an even better chance that the overall foot record of 20 days, 14hrs, 45 minutes could be broken.

Jay and Aidan will likely be in Nome sometime this evening.

If you're watching at just the right time, you might catch a glimpse of one of them on the Nome webcam:

Aidan was about 12 or 13 miles behind him at the last report.

Incredible. I spent a month crossing the Tetons in 20 below storms, sleeping in dug out snow shelters. The calories those guys must expend is enormous. How they could possibly even carry two weeks worth of food is beyond me. Do they have food restock stations?

I am seriously going to look into this. Mind blowing. It's been a lifelong dream to see the depths of Alaska. I can't imagine a better way.

There are post offices in most of the villages they pass through, and three air drop bags provided along the route. Usually no more than 2-5 days worth of food on the bike at one time.

wow......the Iditarod on a singlespeed and I thought 50 miles on my SS was a long Mtb ride.

Gears or no gears, one great ride.

I have been thinking about this ride since I left AK 20 years ago.

These people are amazing. I can't comprehend what must go into such an undertaking.

Yeah, after 11pm or midnight, that happens. The main reason so many people were out when Jay came in is that he came in right behind an Iditarod dog sled racer.

Edit: there were a few people there to greet him, they're just hard to see with the lighting. I think they were wearing light colored clothing.
