    Bent axle...

I was bleeding the brakes and replacing the pads on my winter wheels when I noticed something different. With the bike in the stand I spun the rear (Bontrager Rhythm Comp) wheel to listen for rubbing against the rotor; one spot. I was zoning a little while I looked through the spokes at the cassette when I noticed that the cassette had a wobble in it. Not enough to feel while riding but enough to move the bike while the back wheel rotates freely on the stand.

I took the axle out, put it in my cordless drill and turned it on....it's bent.

Time to purchase a new axle. OR I might replace the wheelset all together?

Axles are pretty cheap but the cassette will probably still wobble. There are a few threads bout that and it's apparently normal.

Just take the bent axle down to the LBS or REI. They can match it up with a spare. It might not look identical but as long as it's the same length and thread pattern it will work just fine.

My LBS and I will figure it out Monday. I'll let you know what happens with the cassette wobble once we swap axles.
