    WVMTBA/Frances Slocum Workday April 5th

Just a head's up. We just received confirmation from the FS Park Manager Rex Brandish of the upcoming work day scheduled by the park. Instead of me "rehashing" what he has to say, I'll let all of you take a gander at it.

On behalf of the WVMTBA, we're once again proud to be part of the trail system at the park and welcome all new riders and volunteers.

    Kevin
    Wyoming Valley Mountain Bike Association.

Frances Slocum State Park would greatly appreciate your participation for a Mountain Biking Trails Workday on Sunday, April 5, 2009, from 9:00AM - 2:00PM.

With the spring thaw, there is plenty of work that needs to be done to address wet locations, trail layout, and associated issues on our mountain biking trails.

We will meet at the Carverton Road - Mocanaqua trailhead at 9 AM. Registration and equipment distribution will take place at that location and afterwards participants will be assigned a work area.

Please pack a lunch, bring plenty of water, and dress appropriately. Participants are encouraged to bike the trails after the event.

There will be no prior registration for this event; however, new volunteers will need to complete a Conservation Volunteer form on the morning of the workday: Members of NEPMTBA and WVMTBA are already covered under their organization's applications.

Thanks for considering this invitation and we look forward to seeing you on the 5th. Please feel free to post this invitation online or pass it on to any interested individuals or groups.

Any questions, please email me back or call me at 570-696-3525.

Chris and Gary have done some prelim work and layout and have met with the park manager this past week. Some projects that we wanted to get done, mainly the re-location of the section of "blue" trail will have to wait for a bit as we first need to figure out how to close off the existing trail, so..that won't be done Sunday.

However, Rex has a good plan for things that do need to be done, so..by all means make sure you are at FS for Sunday at 9am!

Our first ride is scheduled for the following Tuesday, however we are planning a ride after working Sunday.

I would think not as the park seems to always have that covered, however, to be safe esp if we get a lot of people showing up, I would throw a shovel and /or rake in the trunk.

Want to thank everyone that came out yesterday for the work day! Heck..instead of talking about it I got a bunch of pics, as soon as I get em off the camera I'll put then up.

Out of the 10 projects assigned by the park manager..ALL of them got completed, and some were not easy! I played with more rocks and mud yesterday than I have had in a while!

    Kev

Ok...Just a few showing major reconstruction and drainage close to the Green Road access area and the "Roman road" along with the trail re-route alongside the lake.

Our Fearless Leader...Captain Grey Beard!! aka Chris Stine!

Work along the Roman Road. Dang rocks were heavy!

Who needs PennDot when you have WVMTBA!!

A little Bridge re-buiding alongside the lake.

    Finished results of Roman Road

Trail re-route. The new trail going off to the right. The old trail you can't even pick out anymore as we camoflauged it pretty good.

Most of the work was centered on drainage, which after the rain we had we were able to pick out where the problems were. I think we have it all covered now and I personally and for the group want to thank all our volunteers and especially the staff & crew at Frances Slocum State Park. As usual, they had all the toys and tools for us at the ready making the work all that much easier.
