    Wissahickon picture thread

    Hey guys and gals,
I'm working on a project in Atlanta that for practical purposes is an urban park, despite that many neighbors feel it's their own personal paradise. It's the Chattachoochee River National Recreation Area and part of th National Park Service. We have just completed phase 1 of a major trail rehab program with the NPS and phase 2 starts in October.

As part of my plan to rally neighbors behind the project and encourage more team work and less bickering, I'm meeting with one of the largest neighborhood associations and would like to show examples of other urban parks -- the width of the trail, trail features, other users, etc.

Please post up some pictures from Wiss or even other urban parks you may have in the Philly area where biking is allowed.

    Thanks for your help!

Search the photo gallery for "Wissahickon" - there are a couple of nice pics there.

Try this link for pictures. I added the PMBA website link in my previous post thinking maybe you would put a message there asking the same question. This might have something that you're looking for.

Hey Charles, i lived in Hot-lanta for 3 years from 1997-2000 and I used to ride those trails every week. I almost ran over Newt Gingrich one day and we had a good laugh. He was actually a cool guy that day. But there were so few miles of trails for a big city, and this was when MTB was growing fast. There were more riders every week and it was getting tight in there. After I left I heard things heated up between the user groups but this is awesome news that things are progressing nicely for MTB'ers and I wish you luck... I am not sure what if anything a picture of some dirt trails from the Wiss will do for you. You could take a picture anywhere and say it's a big city trail. What you need is some info on how we (PMBA) have partnered with the FOW (an 80 year old multi-user group focused on preservation of the park) to volunteer in the park and rebuild/maintain all the multi user trails for the good of everyone. They routinely trust us to use their expensive motorized equipment on our own! When we are out volunteering, we meet other (less hard core) people who are into bird watching and walking and work side by side and get to know each other and work for the good of everyone, not just us bikers. Stress to these people how active we are in not only riding the trails, but volunteering to maintain them. They should embrace us as partners and watch us come out in numbers and work. What group of sane people would turn down hundreds hours of volunteer work?!

Good luck! Oh and here are some pics taken in the Wiss

These are great! Thank you! How pictures from Wiss help is ones that show bikers and walkers together. I'm using Wiss as a prime example of an urban park with large numbers of users who get along. Sure there are issues that pop up I'm sure but I'm talking about the big picture.

So do you have or do you mind getting some pictures that show walkers and bikers together?

    Thanks! This really will help!
