    trail destruction

Well today while riding the devils elbow secion of north park i found some serious sabotage. Someone flipped over and dragged of the trail a see saw stunt and went through almost all the trails and cut out branches and thorn branches then laid them across the trail. Makes me angry! if your doing this please stop. otherwise just wondering if anyone else has seen this.

I've forwarded this to the PGHMTB group; from there they will forward the info to the county parks officials.

Alright, apparently it's a single person that has done this. It appears that it has happened before as well.

    Quoting,
"Last winter someone was doing this same trail sabotage . Many of us would love to catch this person and at least talk to him or her. Its just stupid and is a real waste of time for everyone who rides or hikes these trails.
If I see them I will call the county police and hold them till they arrive."

Yet another update from a great fellow:

Earlier in the week someone had reported that the trails around Devils
Elbow were in terrible shape and seamed as if they had been vandalized.
I was fairly busy with work and family obligations Monday and Tuesday,
and Wednesday the weather wasn't cooperating, so I didn't make it out
there till last night. I got there around 4:30 and walked the section
by Devils Elbow spending about 1.5 to 1.75 hours clearing and removing
Hawthorn branches, small trees, and piles of brush and branches from the
trails. I also set the Teeter back up, and did some PR with an older
couple that was walking their dogs. Most of the trails are clear of
obstruction. It was clear as I went through that this was done on
purpose and with a malicious intent it must have taken a concerted
effort to break some of the 4-5" limbs off of nearby trees to lay in the
    trails.

After speaking with the couple walking their dogs and explaining PTAG
etc. they were very positive and said they walk through there fairly
often and would keep an eye out for anyone being destructive. They
asked several questions about bikes and the trails, and seamed as if
they were genuinely appreciative that I was taking some time to clear
the trails, especially because of the dangers of the Hawthorn branches
    to them and their dogs.

It is easy to see that the proximity of the town houses to the trails
means we will probably see more of this type of vandalism on this trail
than on some of the others. I rode the whole pool section with lights
after clearing the trails and didn't have any problems. Those trails
are in great condition with very few soggy spots so ride them with care
and let me know if you come across any more situations like this! There
are several people who will find some time to go out and check it out
    and keep up the trails.
So, it looks as if it's been fixed up. Props to Dave for taking the time to do this.

    people messing with the trails

I've noticed that people have been putting alot of brush in the middle of the trqail around devils elbow too. It has to be walkers, what kind of rider would put anything that could puncture your tire on the trails? I doubt the people that would mess with the trail would be browsing a mountain bike forum. The best thing we can do is just to keep the trails clear ourselves. Enjoy the log rides & teeter totter.
