It is a sad day when some a-holesteals a man's happiness. I'll keep my eyes open up north. You never know where it may end up. Hope you're not without a bike too long.
    LOVE THE RIDE!

Thans, you really never know where it could go.

And defiantly sad day. I did weeks of research on this site which lead me to this bike, the first bike Ive owned since 10. This bike helped me lose over 100lbs, and kicked my endurance to overdrive. Less than a year old.

I hope you find it. Was it insured? IF not you should insure your next bike. Mine is only about $100/year for $3,500 bike.

Hoping I do as well! After losing so much weight on it, I decided to buy another, so I have a new XCal 9. i didn't know there was a thing for insuring a bike? Who insures them, like my regular car insurance company or someone else?

Mike, you can usually get a rider(no pun) on your home owners or renters insurance but I prefer a more specific bicycle policy like what Markel offers. I lived on a boat for years and there was no version of home owners and I was forced to find a bicycle specific policy which are prolific in Europe but very rare in the US. I think it also could be state specific.

Here is a link: Bicycle Insurance | Bike Insurance Coverage | Markel

Depends on your insurance company. Mine covers the contents of my garage, including bikes, without an additional rider for the bikes. Unless I need them insured above a certain amount, which I don't.

It's worth a call to find out if you're covered.

We have additional riders on our insurance for our bicycles, but that's because our bike values are > our car values, almost. It's a shameful addiction.

I definitely advocate working with your insurance to make sure that your coverage of your two wheeled friends is to your satisfaction, we have gone so far in the past of having the agent document our bicycles specifically along with photographic evidence so that loss for theft or damage would be no hassle. Worth the peace of mind.

The only person with balls to snatch it out of your garage....is likely a meth addict, specialists at crimes of "opportunity." And, once in the hands of one - it quickly becomes currency to buy more dope, or undergoes a complete cosmetic transformation(tedious paint strip), to become a tweaker's main transpo. Good luck getting it back...

I was directly involved in 3 bike thefts last year. 2 of the 3 were recovered. One was even recovered from a possible meth head.

1 - one of my folding bikes was stolen in Key Biscayne FL. Cops did nothing. Never recovered.
2 - High end kids bike stolen at KT by a low life transient passing through. I saw the dude and his old lady moving through East Burke. They stole the bike from behind a house. Left their cheap Huffy behind which really pissed off the kid. I told the father I saw these clowns out on rt. 114 and he chased them down and took back his kids Giant and did not return their Huffy!

3 - Wife's commuter bike stolen from outside her office in Portland, ME. I searched the neighborhood and finally ended up at the local soup kitchen where a guy was bragging to his friends about his new Gary Fisher bike. Called the cops and got it back.

My point is that there is hope for recovery. Check with your insurance, check local CL, want ads, etc.

A crime of opportunity like that could also be a local kid. Not unheard of.
