SAMBA members- how are trail conditions at Gretna and Swatara?

Just wondering if those fine trails made it through the winter. Any updates on riding conditions. We are in the midst of mud season up here.
Check out some of our local hills: CDRC (Capital District Road Climbs)

Rode Gretna on Sat - Trails look good a few wet spots but overall they are pretty clear. We are in the midst of some tree cutting at Gretna for Gypsy Moth damage near Pinch road, looks very different but is much better than I thought it would look. Across the street (Pinch) the PGC has clear cut an area. Glad Gv Dick didn't do that.

Trail 15 is in good shape right now. Just a few wet spots, but on Sat there were no standing water areas.

Rode Swatara on Sun. Those trails are also pretty good. Just stay off of AA for now it is really wet. It is also a new trail from last year so it may need a little more time to dry out.

Speak for yourself, the tree cutting looks horrible up there! But the new trail is running great!

Matt - any plans in the works for laying out any new trail this year? Is there a chance to have a tow rope installed on radar road? lol! Seriously, it looks like that logged out area should have some trails cut through it to, you know, observe the regrowth. The feedback on trail 15 has been overwhelmingly positive, so given that, is the board willing to let more trails go in?

Any chance that some of the unusable, dropped timber can be used for "trail features"?

There may ba a chance to put in some new trail in the cut area, but we have to wait until the cutting is complete and then we have to work with the board to see where they are putting the fences (for regrowth / deer control). We would like to change the nasty fall line trails 6 and 7 comeing down from the tower to Pinch parking. We also have a few more ideas we have been working on. Change is VERY slow at Gv Dick.

In a word "No". Not to sound harsh, but, Gv Dick will never be that type of park.

On another rant.... For those who feel the need to make "shortcuts' on the existing trails and to sanitize (make them easier) the trails... please don't!!!

    Matt,

Slow....they would have to speed up to slow down. You guys are so patient. I feel fortunate to be working with the Boy Scouts. One guy, Gary period.

    Good job!

Trail 15 is one of our favs, but then so are all the trails there, well maybe not the big scary Radar Rd uphill...LOL
