Hoping to get over for at least a quick visit over the weekend. Really looking forward to checking out these trails at Hopewell. Any thoughts of group rides after the race weekend is over?

group rides are always welcome over there. We actually had a group ride Saturday morning to sort of GPS the whole route and tape some of the course as a preview. The only thing that we ask is to be aware of hunting season (like all places in Central PA).

If you do decide to get over this weekend, be sure to check out the "Bus Stop" directly across the picnic pavilion for up to date news on the trails. The rumor is that it's nearly complete with 1 or 2 little connectors still to go. Trails maps are being drawn up right now. Some of the trails have signs on them (we will be upgrading the signage to something more permanent over the next few months).

Mttopttek thanks for the early commitment. To bad you won't be able to make it this year. You should just come and wing it lol.

Superfly, happy to have you aboard. Have you register already for the race?

No. I'm going to raystown this weekend. Waiting to make sure nothing catastrophic happens in all the two a day rides. A few of us are registering when we get back.

Ok just make sure you do soon. Prices always seem to inflate once it's closer to the race. Just some advice for you. Pass it along to anyone else you know who made be interested. I'll be there all weekend working the event so stop by the main tent and say hello.

What we discuss at our meeting last night was that it will go in minute intervials just to break the field up so there are minimal wrecks at the start.

Just received word that there is no need to register or check in for camping. You can head to Hess Fields, pitch your tent than head off to the Expo. It's roughy a 1.5-2 mile commute by bike to get to the Expo Area.

You are going to have a lot of furious beginners and intermediates unless an email goes out since bike reg says those classes start at 10 and 11:30!

    Greg,

Thanks for checking. Night riding is fine. The only thing that is specifically prohibited is riding on Saturdays during the hunting seasons as listed on the trailhead sign.

Dog are welcome, be advised though, you are in the woods so you may encounter porcupines, deer, and bear. Please also note that part of the route (assuming you do the entire 5+ miles) goes through an old junk yard (Tetanus Trail) so there is broken glasses and misc sharp objects. No matter how much we try to clean that up, the rain will always wash new stuff down. That being said please use your judgement.

Hey everyone, these trails are the real deal! I just rode there Monday 9/15 and Tuesday 9/16 and I can't say enough about the quality of work that went into the design/build of these trails. Wow! The loop has great flow: some big climbs, twisty & flowy sections and some screaming downs which keep you on your toes for sure, and a big smile on your face!!! They did some top quality bench cutting on some steep terrain. I got lucky with perfect dirt conditions. Make sure you schedule a trip to Danville, and ride these trails. Awesome post ride food and beer in town at the OId Forge Brewing Company. Major thanks to all who helped develop these trails and make them a reality. I get to Danville several times a year from my home in Philadelphia and I can't wait to come back. Cheers!

    Nice Work!

I hit up the Hopewell trails today with Flurry the trail dog. Nice work to all those involved making this system. I wasn't expecting as much climbing as there was, just looking at the view of the surrounding terrain. And boy, the downhill sections near the end sure will grab your attention!
Turned into a beautiful day after the fog burned off.

Since we were in the neighborhood, headed over to the Geisinger trails for a quick loop.

Awesome glad you had fun. It's super easy to follow right now with all the arrows still up.

Greg and I had a pretty good pedal after work. Met up with 2 other newer riders as well and they seemed to have a blast too! Great flowy trails with some awesome climbs!!

Hey man, glad you got a chance to come up and ride here. Hopefully you'll be able to just make a special trip and come up to ride without having to work the week too. Dirt conditions are honestly like that no matter what the weather is like, it's cut to drain so there are minimal puddles. Maybe 2 tops that I can think of that need to get tweaked.

Since we were in the neighborhood, headed over to the Geisinger trails for a quick loop.
That's a tight squeeze on sidewinder, even with narrow bars!
Glad you and the dog enjoyed the trails. Hopefully you'll be back again to ride them with us!

Greg and I had a pretty good pedal after work. Met up with 2 other newer riders as well and they seemed to have a blast too! Great flowy trails with some awesome climbs!!

Great ride yesterday dude, even though I was basically in a coma coming up the 3D trail after the little split by the borough building. I gotta head down your way one of these days to tear it up down there next

Just a friendly reminder that Hunting Season begins tomorrow. This means that Hopewell is off limits on Saturdays every Saturday between September 27, 2014 and will reopen again on December 20, 2014

Does hunting affect geisinger trails? Visiting inlaws and planning on hitting in the morning.

This post might be coming too late, but:

Some of the trails at Geisinger are owned by Geisinger and part of the official 'Geisinger Stewardship Forest' trail system. Hunting is permitted on this land, but so is mt biking during hunting season. Wear bright colors. During archery you'll be fine, during rifle, best to avoid all together. Includes all the trails shown on the trailhead map - in other words, stay on the trails that are designated by animals.

Some of the trails at Geisinger are leased/owned by a local hunting club. These are totally off limits during all hunting seasons.

for more info on hunting at Geisinger, please check out their page.

"As a reminder the trails on Hunt Club property are closed for hunting season. These trails include North Face, White Chair, Brad's Trail and Cemetery Trail. When in doubt ask a local who knows or just stay on animal signed trails. Those are safe to ride and are owned by Geisinger. Hunters are allowed on Geisinger property. Wear orange and pay attention to hunting seasons."
