PA Interscholastic Cycling League - start a team in your area!

You know we got a PA Interscholastic Cycling League rolling last year, moving into year 2? About 23 teams across PA. About 20 more thinking about starting up in 17.

300 participants in year 1, anticipating 550-600 in year 2. Kids love it, just have to get it in front of them.

Fall season. 6 events max. Spread across state. Pure beginner friendly (as in teaching how to get on and off properly in week 1 practice) but with some very fast JV and varsity racers in the mix. For 6th-12th graders. Separate races for each grade and gender. 60% of league is middle school.

Designed to be be manageable for many students and parents -- teams set up plan that works best for them in their community. Practices start in July, races in Sept. Done by Nov 7/8. Team members don't have to race - working on "adventure" options too. Community service through trail stewardship component too.

Getting some calls going about starting teams up across PA. Tues Feb 14, 28, Mar 14. Hit me back if you're interested in knowing more. League info at PAmtb.org. We're a National Interscholastic Cycling Association league.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Year two of PICL, say "pickle," was stellar!

615 kids in middle and high schools across PA. 34 teams. 4 events across the state. Girls Camp and the roll out of the inaugural Teen Trail Corps effort which, over the four month season from July 1-Oct 30, tallied almost 2000 hours of trail work! We're planning to triple this, at least, in 2018!

We're ramping into next season already and have a slate of coaching education classes and summer camps in the works, with plans for a 5-6 race series in the fall of 2018.

The league is on track to break 1000 participants in 2018 and we could reach 2000 or more by 2019! This is all incredible and wonderful and crazy, but none of it happens without great people to light the fires in their communities.

If you can find some fire starters, we would love to help you get a team started in your area. If you want to know more, give us a shout or check out the site --

and you can find us on social media too, of course -- @pamtbrace on FB, IG, and Twitter.

Look for the PA Dirt Tour of outreach events coming in the late Feb and March 2018. If you'd like us to make a trip to your area, we'd be happy to work with you on a visit to your community.

#morekidsonbikes is happening in PA! We'd love for you to join us!

    Cheers,
    Mike
