National Trails Day at Valley Forge

I'll be manning the IMBA booth for the day, and would welcome the opportunity to meet some of the folks who post here. We'll be set up in the Betzwood picnic area, so stop out and say hello. The event is Saturday June 4th from 9-3.

NTD is a nationwide event that aims at promoting trail usage in many ways to include biking, hiking and other activities that in general promote outdoor activities and a healthy lifestyle. In light of the recent agreement signed between IMBA and The National Park Service, this is event our first real opportunity to make some headway in getting trails opened at the park. While this year's activities that will be taking place at VF do not include MTB related activities (look for that to change in the future), the following is a list of planned events:

    TRAIL FAIR
-Displays and Exhibits (corporate stewards, environmental, conservationm and trails organizations)
-Fitness Assessments (health and fitness organizations)
-Gear Demonstration (Eastern Mountain Sports joined by sponsors)

    HIKES
    -Wonders of Nature Walk
    -History Guided Hike

    Educational Clinics
    -Beginner and Advanced Orienteering
-Leave No Trace Master Presents: (Outdoor ethics, promoting environmental awareness
    -Eastern Mountain Sports Presents:
-Intro to flat water kayaking skills
    -Ultra light packpacking techniques
-Stay put/Stay dry (teaching children what to do if they get lost)
-Intro to Adventure Racing and Environmental Responsibility taught bu GOALS

    TRAIL MAINTENACE PROJECTS
-Trail Cleanup Projects-Help keep VFNHP clean

Again, a show of support for MTB would be very helpful in IMBA's efforts of building the relationship with the Trails Supervisor and the Superintendent at VF. If we can show them that the community is active and responsible, I believe we have a much greater chance at being successful in our efforts to open more trails to riders.
