Motor vehicle broke- will try to ride there.
Used to pass thru Francis Slocum 25 years ago, when I lived nearby- recently was told it is closed to Mt Bikers, or you have to have a pass to ride there.
At the time, trails were limited and it was a "just passin thru" kind of place, and the park personnel got a kick out of the idea of someone riding a bicycle in the woods.
    Just curious.

    Good job!

Great ride today with lots of riders coming out on the holiday...

...rode the lower quadrant of trails: 5 Tree, Nitemare, Twister and Buddys, then up Screamer to Edge, T-Rex 2, good loop back to T-Rex1, 8, NW1, NW2, What, NW2, NW1... 8 in reverse is super! Even rode the new killer line on the big log over, so it's possible going down, next time I'll try it going uphill...

First ride of 2012 is in the books!

Francis Slocum is open for business. On the west side of the park (west of the lake and away from the campground, boat rentals, etc.) the trails are essentially 100% open to mtb. There is some musing that the few "non-red" trails (a couple yellows and some unmarked stuff by the lake) are not open to mtb but that's a pretty trivial exclusion. In the summer, there is a regular Tuesday night ride starting at 6:00 from the Carverton Rd. lot. That group, WVMTBA, maintains the trails and works closely with the Park Manager. You can use google to find their forums.

Today (New Year's Day), several of us did a nice ride from Slocum to another nice, local trail system (err, extended rock garden ... hummm). Not sure of the publicity status of those trails, so I won't go into more details.

    Happy New Year,
    Mark
