Listen! Moon Lake new stuff happening 5/8/09

    To all:

If you haven't visited the mOOn this year, here's a little goings on at the mOOn:

Watkins trail restored at Moon Lake park.

The Watkins trail originally designed by the BoyScouts has been cleaned up and restored by NEPMTBA. It's location is near the roundabout circle and connects to the Skinny's downhill for a cleaner connection to JKE, Farm RD, Slide, and other trail connections. Located
at the end of the Skinny's DH turn left up the service Rd for 50 feet(this will change to allow better intersection flow connection) on your right is Watkins Trail. It starts out level and descends nicely with no sharp curves just one continuous flow passing around rock gardens and the stream where the bridge leads you out to the roundabout. The trail is (level 1) non tech singletrack. Trials area number 5 is located in this area as the rock outcrop is a great section. In reverse the trail will be great as it has one small climb.

NEPMTBA Wednesday night "Trials" this week with regular ride also.

This Wednesday at the mOOn we will open our yearly Wednesday night trials riding. The regular MTB ride will be in full swing. but a few who wish to hit the "Trials areas" are welcome to join in for a bit of "Trials" clinic, tech and riding! We will meet at the main gate a drive to the Trials sections starting at the "Skills" area, then moving on to other "Trials" areas as the night progresses. It will be beginner friendly as beginners can work on balance and line selection and the others can "Hit the Rocks" On the regular ride your welcome to ride by, join in, watch or take pics like we did last year. I'm working on getting a few special guests to join us, no promises though as I will see if they can make it! This will be a bit of tech and to gain balance and strength, maybe I will even layout a few "Trials Sections" to try with unofficial scoring... LOL!

New "Trials area" designed by Chuck Kovach called "Deacon Trials area"

NEPMTBA's own Chuck Kovach, old school motocrosser/trials rider has begun building with plans for completion in a week or two. Ty Kovach, Big Daddy Todd and myself have joined the effort and of course you will find more of our fantastic mOOn glacial boulders to play on. This is "Trials" area #4 and is located at the end of Natures Way. Along with the Deacon "Trials" Area there will be a Six day or Scot trials trail called "Deacon trail" and building will begin as soon as the "Trials" area is completed. This will be a level 3 (difficult) trail with few of our usual runarounds! It will start by leaving from the Deacon "Trials area" and connect with other trails.

When completed, the mOOn will have 5 "Trials" areas spread out throughout the park where the user can ride the outer loop and find many hours of fun stopping by these "Trials" sections to play on.

    Locations are:

    1. Skills(trials) area #1 is near the Nature Center
2."Trials" area #2 is between Edge of the Ledge and Campground Service Rd
3."Trials" area is near the water tanks on T-Rex 2
4."Trials" area # 4 is at Deacon at the end of Nature's Way trail and Maintenance shed Service Rd
5."Trials" Area (future) is on Watkins trail

Don't worry about having a special "trials" bike, your regular mt bike will do as there is small stuff you can try and even natural stone ramps that will make ya feel like a true "trials" rider. Of course we do have our mOOn glacial boulders for the really trick "trials" bikes and munis!

So there ya have it.... Feel free to join NEPMTBA, the 1st, largest, most progressive, most trails built/maintained in the area, "Buddy" the dog approved...LOL and a group that has lots of "FUN"

Come ride the mOOn! I think you will find lot's to enjoy. Pics and vids coming soon...

    Good job!

I had a chance Monday night to work/ride the Mega Trials rocks at the mOOn. Some of the first sections at Decon Trials area are complete with many lines from beginner to expert. Big Daddy Todd even cleaned the beginner line! We have already named the huge rock now called "Thor" It's higher than the roof of a car and shaped like a triangle, but does have a line up and over! The place looks great and soil is starting to firm up a bit! Most of the holes are filled and kickers are placed to allow "ups" It's designed to allow mod, stock bike or regular mt bikes to ride this stuff.

There are at least 25 big solitary boulders scattered within a 10 to 25 feet of each other which will make for great pics. To stand among these giants is awesome! If your not into trials it's just a great place to hangout and a picnic table and cooker ring are on order. Our next MTB Ride/Cookout later this month will be held here as we have permission and can get a gas grill and stuff there via Service Road M.... NICE!

I did see a first timer at the park and he was impressed with the layout. He just couldn't believe we ride stuff like that! As we spoke a bit he liked the idea and placement of the Decon trials area which is at the end of Nature's Way trails so you can ride out on Narture's Way 1, take a break and ride back on Nature's Way 2.

So the mOOn is the only park in the area not only to have a "Trials area" but 5 different one's! Making it very unique indeed.

    Ride the mOOn...

    Good job!

I received quite a few emails inquiring to what the "trials" is at the mOOn.

    It's tonight 5/13/09 at 6PM main gate.

So, remember it's fun for all. You don't need a special bike, try it, learn it, ride it, hang out, stop by, challenge your buds to a clean line ride by you and see if they can do it also!
