    Jim Thorpe

Anyone been to Jim Thorpe, PA lately to ride? Is it still any good? I know they have shut down the use of some of the trails due to the game commission.

That's all relative. If you like rails-to-trails type riding in a scenic gorge it's great. But in reality it's not what it used to be years ago. In my case, many years ago I used to ride there every other weekend, now do so once a year. The good and bad of it is discussed on here a lot, (the PA forum), search for it and also search for Tamaqua, you'll get some insights.

There is a user on here from the immediate area, and a dedicated website, search under his name, as in this thread: http://forums.mtbr.com/pennsylvania/...on-657154.html. As someone in that thread says, French Creek is the closest alternative relatively near by.

PS: I noticed the JT Trails Coalition website hasn't been updated since the fall.

So, it sounds like it's just not what it used to be. I remember it being a MTB haven in PA back in the day and I was hoping that it still was...too bad.

At least 2 or 3 of us ride the Jim Thorpe area regularly. We alternate rides from Broad Mt (great out of hunting season, and generally not a problem on weeknights; stay away on Saturdays during hunting seasons), downtown JT, Mauch Chunk Lake, and other nearby areas. Seems fine to us, although some areas can use a bit of maintenace. We rode Flagstaff/Bob's Option on Tuesday and it was in great shape. Bob's option was a little loose in areas.

I heard AS rides nicely as of late. I haven't been there in a while. Because it's illegal. Cough.
